**Hemingway on Hunting**

Ernest Hemingway is a renowned figure in the literary world. The book "Hemingway on Hunting" (Lyons Press 2001)(818.0) presents excerpts from his writings related to hunting. It has an introduction by Sean Hemingway and a forward by Patrick Hemingway, indicating the involvement of the great man's estate. This volume serves as a companion to "Hemingway on Fishing". However, when it comes to hunting and fishing stories, I would prefer those of Robert Ruark over Papa H's. In my opinion, there are aspects of Hemingway's hunting accounts that don't quite resonate with me as strongly as Ruark's. Nevertheless, this book does offer a unique perspective into Hemingway's thoughts and experiences regarding hunting. My rating for this book is 4/10, and I completed reading it on 1/19/11.

It's interesting to note that while Hemingway's writing is highly regarded, everyone has their own preferences when it comes to literary works. The comparison between his hunting stories and those of others adds an element of debate and discussion. Whether one prefers Hemingway's style or that of another author, it all comes down to personal taste and what one looks for in a hunting or fishing narrative.

The inclusion of the introductions and forward by Hemingway's descendants also adds a layer of authenticity and connection to the author. It gives readers a sense of the family's involvement and perhaps an insight into how they view Hemingway's work in the context of hunting. Overall, "Hemingway on Hunting" is a book that may appeal to fans of Hemingway and those interested in hunting literature, but it may not be everyone's top choice.

A collection of magazine articles and book excerpts has been assembled.

However, with the exception of the short piece on Francis Macomber, the rest are rather forgettable.

The articles and excerpts seem to lack that certain spark or unique quality that would make them stand out in the reader's mind.

Perhaps they are too formulaic or lack depth and originality.

It's a shame, as one would hope for a more engaging and thought-provoking collection.

The short on Francis Macomber, on the other hand, manages to capture the reader's attention with its interesting subject matter and well-written prose.

It makes one wonder what the collection could have been like if all the pieces had been of a similar caliber.

Overall, while the collection has its moments, it ultimately falls short of expectations.

I embarked on this endeavor as it marks my first time hunting this year. To my dismay, I found that many of the stories within focused more on relationships rather than the actual act of hunting. However, there were certain aspects that I truly relished, particularly some of the精妙 wording.

This compilation consists of short stories and excerpts, necessitating that one reads them all to determine if any will strike a chord.

One crucial point to bear in mind is the era in which the stories were penned. In the past, people would shoot numerous game simply for the sake of shooting, not solely for consumption. It seems, based on his writings, that he later learned to hunt in a more ethical manner.

It is important to note that this is not a book suitable for children, mainly due to the presence of sexual references.

This book offers a unique perspective on hunting and relationships, but it may not be to everyone's taste.

Hunting awesome animals like lions, bears, buffalo and leopards is super awesome.

These magnificent creatures are symbols of power and strength in the wild. Lions, the kings of the jungle, with their majestic manes and powerful roars, are a sight to behold. Bears, known for their size and ferocity, can be a thrilling challenge for hunters. Buffalo, with their massive horns and tough hides, are a worthy adversary. And leopards, with their stealth and agility, are masters of the hunt.

Hunting these animals not only provides an exciting adventure but also allows us to connect with nature on a deeper level. It gives us the opportunity to test our skills and courage in the face of these awesome predators. However, it is important to hunt ethically and legally, respecting the natural habitats and populations of these animals. By doing so, we can ensure that future generations can also experience the thrill of hunting these amazing creatures.

Beautiful excerpts on hunting from larger works can offer a captivating glimpse into the world of this age-old activity.

Most of these passages tend to focus on big game hunting in Africa, painting vivid pictures of the excitement and challenges involved in tracking and taking down majestic animals in the wilds of that continent.

However, what I was specifically seeking was more about deer hunting in the Americas. Sadly, there wasn't much in the excerpts that delved into this particular aspect.

Nevertheless, the excerpts that were available were still nice. They provided an interesting perspective on hunting in general, even if it wasn't exactly what I had hoped for.

Perhaps in the future, I will come across more literature that focuses specifically on deer hunting in the Americas, allowing me to gain a deeper understanding of this unique form of hunting.

Until then, I will continue to explore the world of hunting through the available literature, eager to discover new and exciting stories and experiences.

The best part of this book was indeed the Introduction by EH's grandson Sean.

He vividly reminisces on several fascinating stories regarding EH's hunting escapades.

Moreover, he provides new and captivating details on his African safari trips.

The first half of the book consists of excerpts from some of Hemingway's novels as well as a selection of his short stories.

The second half, on the other hand, contains hunting stories that he published in magazines and wrote to friends in letters, along with a few additional short stories.

By far, the letters and magazine articles were the most interesting part of the main body of the book.

One could clearly see Hemingway's wry humor shining through in a more natural and effortless way, especially in his later stories.

This book offers a unique and engaging perspective into the life and works of Ernest Hemingway, making it a must-read for any fan of his literature.

As ever, Hemingway's writings have an indescribable charm that moves me deeply.

This collection of articles and snippets from his other works, all centered around hunting and fishing, truly satisfied my intense craving for Hemingway's literary style.

I'm not the kind of person who is in favor of hunting. In fact, I felt a profound sense of sadness for the deaths of the various animals described in his works.

However, it must be remembered that this was another era, another place, and Hemingway wrote with such remarkable eloquence and vividness.

His descriptions make one feel as if they are right there, experiencing the excitement and the brutality of the hunt and the tranquility and beauty of fishing.

Despite my personal stance on hunting, I cannot deny the literary genius of Hemingway and the way his works transport readers to a different world.

Each word seems to be carefully chosen to convey the essence of the moment, making his writings a timeless classic that will continue to move and inspire generations to come.
