Catch-22 is indeed a unique and iconic novel. However, it is unjust to constantly measure everything that Heller wrote after it against this debut. Good As Gold is a complex work that combines elements of political satire, autobiography, and an exploration of the "it's a man's world" concept. If you are acquainted with Heller's style, you will notice the theatrical nature of the dialogue. The storyline, although somewhat haphazard, is filled with vividly described characters and moments of hilarity. Joseph Heller was more interested in the process of the story rather than neatly tying up loose ends at the conclusion of each arc to please the reader. His fictional works should be approached and appreciated with this in mind, allowing the reader to fully immerse themselves in the journey and the various themes and ideas that Heller presents. This way, one can gain a deeper understanding and enjoyment of his literary contributions.
