Really enjoyable book for my college design class! For a textbook, very informative and enjoyable to read. It's not something complex, but just in-depth, researched, and with a lot of focus on examples which I appreciated. Learned a lot and I def attribute my good grade to this book~

Someone told me that this book could be skipped in favour of a few blog posts that cover its highlights. After reading it, I agree. There were a lot of good ideas here, but it could have been condensed into about half the size.

Whether you pick up the book or do a quick google search for the bullet points, get familiar with the ideas. It'll change the way you view everything from websites to coffee pots.

Published in 1988 this book is now very dated, but that is part of the interest in reading it. There are plenty of anecdotal examples of human error and of poor design features. His vision of the complexity of future technologies leading to increased frustration holds true. A good read if you enjoy psychology and to reminisce about 1980's technology.

Great read, even though it's from the 80s a lot of the design principles still stand (and it's a bit sad to see we haven't come that far). It gets a bit outdated at the end (well, computers did make quite some progress) and he repeats himself quite extensively in the summary. Nonetheless, a thoroughly enjoyable and enlightening read.

It's an interesting book, and one from which I learned that this particular area of psychology wasn't for me. Someone actually did research to determine the best angle of arrowheads.

Want to know why VCR controls are so commonly frustrating, why it's easy to turn on the wrong burner in an unfamiliar kitchen, or why simple things like doors sometimes confuse? Read this book and you be more likely to see whats happening when things like this happen.

Hilarious book about how we can't use ordinary things--with very good design advice. Everyone I know who's read this spends the next week screaming 'bad design!' whenever they trip over a curb or can't open a door. Recommended reading for my architecture students--my entire hour class on 'how to design a door' was initially based on observations in this book.
