This is the only poker book I read, but it came very highly recommended and it didn't disappoint. It helped me transition from a total newbie to an above average newbie. I especially liked all the example hands in the book - helped a lot!
Fantastic, straightforward, both a strong introduction and good deeper content depending on your ability level. I am sure that I will come back and read this book again. There's a lot of helpful tips here for thinking in terms of pot odds, play variance, and other important elements of basic poker strategy.
A couple notes on this book: It is (mostly) about deep stack poker tournaments, and although it has advice about other types of poker and is entirely correct about how insanely aggressive online poker betting is and the need to adjust, I would say the most value you will get out of this is for longer poker tournaments. The fundamentals don't change but you will likely struggle if you play this tight in shorter formats (and I believe the authors would agree and mention this).
Also, it's almost 20 years old. The fundamentals of pot odds haven't changed, but playstyles are even more aggressive today and a lot of people play based on far more advanced poker math than you can find here. Not really a criticism of this book, but if you are going to play in the types of tournaments that are being discussed here you will want to read some more updated material in addition to this more foundational text.
great book for any poker player. The quizzes are great, and really helps one to get a better understanding for poker math. My only slight against the book is that it's made my already conservatie game even more conservative.
Pokerio klasika vadinama knyga.
Before starting this book I believed poker is just lucky draws, occasional bluffs and reading the body language of your opponents and while these things happen from time to time, the game has so much more to offer. In Dan's words "it's a game of memory, position, calculation, alertness and patience". The book teaches much of the strategic play fundamentals and my game has improved tremendously during the short course of reading it.
This is a poker book for people who are looking for advanced ideas. Harrington puts you into poker situations and shows the thought process throughout a particular hand.
Ill bet a lot of you have been disapointed buying poker books (especially no limit holdem)because they are all the same and half the book is begginer info that you dont need. This one is worth your time!
