Aklımı kurcalayan her şeyin bir araya geldiği bir kitap, çok şaşkınım. Montano Hastalığı'na yorum yazarken de değinmiştim; hayal ve gerçek, ben ve öteki arasındaki bir sınır belirsizliği var ve belirsizlik kurmaca ve üstkurmaca arasındaki ilişkide, edebiyat yoluyla sezdiriyor kendini. Bu yüzden Montano Hastaları bazı şeyleri görmekle lanetlenmiş, laneti en büyük hediyesi olan küçük kutu adamlar gibi.

Göz, görmek, görülmek ve bakışı, dolayısıyla teşhircilik ve vöyorizm kavramlarını inanılmaz güzel işlemiş Kobo Abe. Bir kutunun içinde, görülmeden ama görerek yaşamak... Görmek ama görülmemek.... Ben-öteki, okur-yazar kavramları arasındaki ilişkinin inanılmaz güzel işlendiği bir kitap. Devrim Çetin Güven çevirisi yolda, ben tersine tavsiye üzerine Remzi Kitabevi'nden çıkan çevirisini okumadım o yüzden İngilizce baskısını okudum. Çeviri basılınca tekrar okuyacağım. Edebiyat, kurgu ve üstkurmacaya ilgi merak duyanların atlamaması gereken bir kitap olduğunu düşünüyorum.

So much abject horror. I liked Woman in the Dunes more-- it was more straightforwardly existentialist, made a bit more sense to me, retained powerful imagery-- but I still had a lot of fun with this one.

Every image Abe conjures up brings to mind a different nightmarish thing I've encountered: the Japanese horror films of Shinya Tsukamoto and Takashi Miike, Beckett's Endgame, Eraserhead, the music of Throbbing Gristle, the oeuvre of David Cronenberg. Note the overwhelming predominance of films on this list... it's a very cinematic novel, going so far as to include unsettling photos against black fields interspersed periodically throughout the book.

I know there are probably deep Freudian drives at work through the characters, but I don't know a great deal about that, so I'll leave that discussion up to someone with a degree in Lacanian psychoanalysis or some such thing. The whole thing is a car crash of modern primitivism, medical science, questions on authenticity and identity, and uncomfortable sexuality. Create two wheels, one with various psychoanalytic concepts, and one with themes from the Box Man. Spin simultaneously. Blam, instant thesis generator!

گویا به آبه لقب کافکای ژاپن رو داده بودند. این کتاب خوبیه برای درک اینکه چرا بهش اینو می‌گفتند. حسی که فقط با ادای دین یا بودن در فضای قصه‌های کافکا نیست،بلکه در عین حال یک برداشت شخصی از ادبیات کافکا به ما می‌ده، برداشتی که شاید موجب بشه تا بهتر بفهمیم. البته این مربوط به بخش نخست کتابه.بخش دوم ایده‌ي جذاب دیگه‌ای رو پیش می‌گیره

بازهم برای تموم کردن کتاب عجله کردم و وسطش یه عالمه کار دیگه‌م کردم و اونقدری که باید نتونستم لذت ببرم، بعلاوه ی اینکه واقعا هیچوقت پی‌دی‌اف اونقدری که باید بهم نمیچسبه :(
ایده ی ناب و به شدت جالبی داشت، ترجمه ی خوب و روان و احتمالا بسیار مشابه لحن نویسنده. زاویه ی دید حقیقتا بدیع بود. دنیایی نو که تا حالا پرداخته نشده و احتمالا ده‌ها استعاره که زیرِ لایه ی سطحی کتاب قایم شده بودند.
یکی از ستاره‌ها فقط به خاطر به شدت خاص بودن کتابه :))

بعد از خوندن سه کتاب از آقای کوبو آبه به این فکر میکنم که دنیایی که کوبو میبینه چقد در عین سوررئالی میتونه رئال تلخی باشه یه جور دنیای سیاه آخرالزمانی .با قلم بسیار گیرا و توصیف هایی به شدت نزدیک به ذهن جوری که به قولی اصلن دنیا همین جوریه که توی این داستان هست و غیر اون اشتباهه. هنوز طعم خوب داستان تجاوز قانونی زیر زبون ذهنم هست

داستانی زیبا، بوی زمستان می‌داد، بوی سیاه کاج. پیله‌‌ای جامانده از شفیره‌ای که به دوردست پرواز می‌کرد.

This is easily the best work I have read by Kōbō Abe. The Box Man is about a peculiar form of homelessness in which a person inhabits a large cardboard box with a curtain viewing slot for interacting with the outside world. The narrator begins by shooting a box man with an air rifle, before deciding to become one himself when he orders a new refrigerator and gets an ideal box for the role.

He himself is shot by an air rifle by a doctor or medical orderly, who himself decides to become a box man. Involved is very kinky voyeuristic sex with the new box man's nurse girlfriend.

Abe is always interesting, even in his lesser novels, of which this is not one.

What a beauty! Exactly what i needed. The perfect antidote to my insomnia. I can happily wrap a box around myself and sleep peacefully wondering wtf is this!
Freaky. Paranoid. Confusing. "Out of the box!"

قد تكون الفكرة للكاتب جميلة، أن نكون معلبين دون ضجيج ما يحدث حولنا.

لكن في نظري بأن الكاتب قدم الرواية بشكل معلب مما جعلها مبهمة، وفي المقابل رأيت في بعض المواضيع لا تعليق بل شفافية ولا خصوصية والعالم كله يرى بأن يقحم في النص العديد من الأمور الجنسية والتعري والتي رأيت إنها لا تخدم النص.

öyle bir kitap ki, kuyusuna taş atsan sesini duyamazsın, öyle derin, öyle kör, öyle sağır. insanın kafasını allak bullak eden, oraya buraya savuran bir kitap. japon Kafka diyorlarmış Abe Kobo'ya, bana sorarsanız delilik ve bunaltı dehlizinde Kafka'dan çok daha aşağıda bir yerde oturuyor.

Abe is a writer who takes one really odd, central conceit or image, in this case, that of a derelict who lives his life inside a cardboard box, and builds a dark, disorienting world out of it.

There are bizarre shifts in time, identity and perspective as the box man sort of disintegrates and becomes whatever or whoever he sees around him. Much like 'Woman in the Dunes' which I thought was much better, Abe makes these absurd scenarios bleed outward and infect everything around them. Kind of like with the whale from 'Moby Dick', the symbol at work here seems to simultaneously represent everything and nothing but itself, which is kind of the point I think?

This whole thing works because Abe's prose has this clinical, scientific precision, and he puts that to good use describing the skittering, staccato world of an impossibly weird individual. This is a deeply beguiling, deeply weird book.

Because this changes narrator so much and is so deliberately confusing, I think this is one of the rare books I would have enjoyed more as an audiobook with changes in voice actor or at least in tone.

This is a well written book with a lot of beautifully crafted passages, and I was really along for the ride for the first third, but it totally lost me after that and I really struggled to figure out what was going on, let alone the societal critique the book was trying to make but probably went totally over my head. I usually enjoy surreal stuff but this absurdist slog wasn't really my cup of tea at all.
