A diverse and fascinating collection of essays, including some of the more 'famois ones' (Politics and the English Language, the defense if Wodehouse) and some more obscure ones that are still fascinating (British smutty postcards, how the poor die). It's almost become cliche to comment on how ahead of his time Orwell was with his 1984 predictions but the politically minded will find a lot of similar prescience in his book in discussing the reaction of the intelligentsia to Russia and fascism ('fake news' isn't as recent as we may think).
Even if you don't share a particular view of Orwell's, his iconoclastic mind shines through in all his works - he has his own thoughts and views and a decent discussion to back them all up. He is the writer ever age needs, but rarely deserves.
