What a pleasure it is to read such a fine writer! I am not a big fan of science fiction, so have not read much by Ray Bradbury, but this collection of short stories was a treat. The first half of the collection only brushes on sci-fi themes and each story is an absolute jewel. Within the first paragraph of these stories the reader is given such a strong sense of character and setting - it's remarkable- and to do it without ever using profanity or edgy content is a real statement on his skill as a story teller. The second half of this collection is introduced and speaks to Ray Bradbury's fascination with space, which was not as interesting to me as the first half, but even so he drew me in on a few of them.

My favorite story was called Powerhouse and was a piece about a woman facing her own faith, or lack thereof, and comparing it to her husband's. Amazing!

Excellent writing. I like sci-fi-esque stuff, and that's what everything in this collection is about, so it's very entertaining.

My favorite story is about the people that live their whole life span in eight days, very enrapturing. Since the good guys don't always make it in Bradbury's writing, I was anxious to see how it would turn out.

My only critique is that sometimes I would just skim over his paragraph long descriptions of the settings. I know that is his style, very elaborate, lots of adjectives, but ok I get it that the field of grass was pretty and had a nice sunrise...keep it to one sentence, sometimes. Sometimes I liked it.

I love Ray Bradbury and all his stories. This was not an exception but it wasn’t my favourite book either. To be honest it’s two books: The Golden Apples of the Sun (2 stars for me) fully of melancholy and vintage storytelling and R is for Rocket (4 stars for me) which has fantastic stories like The Rocket, Here there be Tygers and Frost and Fire (a master piece). So the combination wasn’t perfect for me but loved R is for Rocket!

The story of the title, "A Sound of Thunder," is one of the best short stories ever written ... not to give anything away, it deals with an actual time machine ... the author's way with words is legendary, as this collection amply proves ... not a single rotten apple in the barrel ... a delicious read ...
