Nope. Not for me. The beginning was promising in its own weird way but shortly thereafter I struggled to remain interested. The plot was thin and the main characters who also showed promise never got properly developed. Together with the tiny chapters and dramatic flip flopping to some entirely different and often irrelevant characters story meant I couldn’t maintain any momentum. I made it to the end but only barely, and it required a grim determination of the same strength one would need if starved and given only a large bowl of thoroughly over-boiled brussel sprouts to eat. One might still choose starvation over vexation, and understandably so. This is my first and probably last attempt at a Tom Robbins.

I've read several of Tom Robbins' novels. Villa Incognito is not my favorite, and not my least favorite. It's a solid showing for Robbins fans. If you're new to Robbins, get ready for a journey into the absurd, sprinkled with occasional erotica and obscure but super-interesting facts, many of which are true! His books are a bit like a roller-coaster, and you'll find yourself googling odd things, like "What's a tanuki?" (a highly intelligent mammal translated in English to 'Racoon Dog' but actually most closely related to the fox), and "Why are people so enthralled by circus high-wire acts?" (I'll let you look that one up). If you do indeed decide to read this book, which I would recommend, enjoy!!!

I enjoyed it very much , one of my favorite books of Tom Robbins. The plot is evolving faster than "Even Cowgirls get the blues". The book left me with some questionmarks but the title contains the world incognito so it shouldn't suprised me that much! One of the best , i highily recomende it on anyone enjoys Tom Robbins style wants to laugh, think , get horny . This writter makes me feel how important is to enjoy life. I felt all freshed up after each book of his i read. Villa incognito is until now my favorite one (i think).

3 stars seems stingy for this one but 4 seems excessive. I really like the imaginative scenarios and descriptions. This is second Tom Robbins book that I have read and although not as good as Another Roadside Attraction, I still was engaged with the story and ideas. I will definitely read more. I really enjoy a quirky read with some magic realism mixed with historical fiction. Just enough real realism to balance the magical realism. Even the side stories of Dern's sisters and Miss Ginger Sweetie were fun.

My only complaint is that I wish it went into the 4 generations of women a little more but that was the author's choice. He is a best-selling author so who am I to critique.
