I kept reading, looking for the point of this long-winded, repetitive novel. Yes, Clara eventually gets information from her mother, and I guess she learns from Georg, but the story was very slow. It could easily have been a short story instead of a novel and it would probably have been better that way.

From the perspective of a very imaginative 11 year old.

The main character is a 11 yrs old girl who can be pretty annoying. The book bugged me in the beginning as it was one made up story right after another about her birth and the life of her friend, the old man. I kept reading it because it's our book-club book this month. By the end though, I enjoyed how it all came together. It kept me turning pages.

I read this book to preview it for one of my students. It was a very easy read and would be great for someone who is not a strong reader. The 14 year old girl has quite the imagination as she is searching for answers to her twin sister's death,who her father is, and her mother's unwillingness to share about the past.
