More than a three stars, a 3 1/5. Another enjoyable read by Karin Kallmaker. The reason why it isn't a four or even five stars, the story ended far too soon I felt.
An older romance written in 2003. It starts in a fairly typical two people meet up at hotel where they are attending conferences. There is attraction and the realization that they live not far from each other so they can continue a relationship. Oddly Melissa is very flighty and extreme in her views. But Sarah is so overcome with the attraction it doesn't stop the relationship. Fast forward a bit and Sarah relocates to the Bay area when Melissa gets a grant to do a documentary. Sarah is a patent attorney and gets a great new job. There she meets Leslie, a single mom and her new supervisor. I don't think I've ever read a book where you get only get intimate scenes with the person who doesn't end up as the love interest. I knew I didn't like Melissa and honestly was glad when she wasn't the one. But I would have liked to see Leslie get her own dating time or for Sarah to have chosen one over the other. I still am at three stars because it was a quick compelling read.
I have read a number of books by Karin Kallmaker and unfortunately this one isn't one of my favorites. I really liked the 2 MC's and loved their chemistry, but Sarah stayed with Melissa way to long in my opinion. I wished we could have seen more of the story between the MC's.
I’m a bit conflicted with this book. On the one hand it was quite refreshing to have a story that was different to the standard meet, fall in love, become soulmates live HEA.
The first third of the book lead me to believe that’s exactly where that was headed. However Melissa was horrible and you could see the twist coming so it was no real surprise.
The last part of the book felt frustrating as I’d have liked to spend more time exploring the new relationship so it all felt a bit rushed with the ending.
I’ve enjoyed some of this authors other books, this one is not one of my favourites sadly.
The first part of this book (Melissa) felt a bit off to me. But when the move to San Francisco happened I really started enjoying it. Sarah seemed a poor fit with Melissa, but she came into her own with the move. I loved how the relationship with Leslie started as antagonistic and then moved to friends. It felt like the book ended to soon though. I wanted to see more of Leslie and Sarah together.
Great ending! Ending wasn't the typical romantic closure. The storyline itself was an Impression in my view of a discovery of the term love and it's difference with lust. Well written and just one of many stories from one of my liked author
I love a slow build up of a relationship and this felt perfectly. I wanted to punch Mellisa most of the time and was glad that that was all just groundwork to finding the right place and person.
