Wasn't as good as I remembered. Slightly horrified how 'body image' was tackled back then, I also read a 1976 edition with a slightly different cover, which was just awful! I felt that the family actually wanted to let the fox go too, but wouldn't own up to it.
light gentle farm holiday tale, puffin classic I accidentally picked up with Saturday morning coffee. Nature, thunderstorms and balmy summers. Friends separated for summer so write letters. Highlight is the fertile, witty imagination of both boys as they run wild with ideas and make-believe situations. Plentiful fantasy sequences.
Read aloud with the kids. The main characters' thoughts were interesting but otherwise I thought it was boring. A boy doesn't want to go to a farm. Goes to a farm anways. Watches a fox all summer. Fox leaves. He leaves. Cool.
