En jättehärlig och rolig bok, dock inte lika bra som de två jag lyssnade på före (Mitt nya liv och En skopa kärlek). Ibland kändes det som om det inte fanns en ordentlig story och kärlekshistorien var inte lika självklar som i de tidigare böckerna, utan mer som en bisats. Men ändå en underhållande bok! Jag minns att jag älskade filmen också, men det var längesedan jag såg den.

Rebecca (Becky) just can't stop shopping I thought I liked shopping but not in the same amounts of money as this woman.

I wasn't too keen on Luke in this story his little games annoyed me. I'm hoping he'll grow on me through the series.

I thought Becky should take her own advice on her TV show as she is the Finance Guru meets Girl Next Door.

It's an easy read not the best story in the world for me but enough to make me want to read the rest of the series.

I laughed. I cried. I finished reading this month’s chick lit novel—Confessions of Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella. I have to admit that when I started it, I didn’t like it very much--I could not readily identify with the main character, Becky Bloomwood. She is a British, single, twenty-something woman who works as a financial journalist. However, she does not really seem to know much about her personal finances except how to spend, spend, and spend money. I cannot understand the obsessive nature of a shopaholic who craves to shop for dresses, scarves, kitchen gadgets and even books, etc. She continues this behavior even though she is constantly bombarded by banks and credit card companies who want her to pay her debts.

However, when she attempts to deal with her problems the book turns hilarious. She avoids the credit card companies by creating all sorts of excuses about why she cannot possibly pay, such as she broke her leg or her dog died. Then she decides that she has only two options that she can chose from to solve her problems: C.B. (Cut Back) or M.M.M. (Make More Money). When she elects to bring her lunch to work rather than eating out and to cook at home rather than eat in restaurants to save money, she buys all sorts of kitchen paraphernalia spends hundreds of dollars. Her solutions are rather silly and humorous.

After she inadvertently gives some bad financial advice to the couple who lives next to her parents, they end up losing some of their retirement assets. Becky feels guilty and writes a journalistic expose that reveals the evil ways of the big corporation that cost her parents’ neighbors their money. Luke, the financial advisor/lawyer of that same corporation, who Becky knew previously, and she debate the issue on national television and she makes a strong argument. Luke becomes her love interest (he conveniently has lots of money) and she ends up with a new job that pays well. Ah, think of all the opportunities for shopping!

Confessions of a Shopaholic is absolutely everything that chick lit is supposed to be—funny, light, and completely brainless. Becky doesn’t need to learn to be more responsible—everything works out for her. Kinsella has developed a main character who is memorable and quirky and placed her in a Cinderella storyline. There is lots of humor. It is pure entertainment. I would definitely recommend this title and the remainder of the series to fans of Helen Fielding’s Bridget Jones’s Diary.

Hey so, I do see the point of why some people don’t like this because yes, I do get that Rebecca is a dummy but she’s dumb in the best possible way!

This is about a woman called Rebecca, who indeed is a shopaholic, and simply cannot go one day without buying clothes or any rubbish.

Until. Well. The credit card can no longer stand it. And she falls into debt.

The story revolves around her trying to find ways to solve her issue. Maybe date a millionaire? Maybe find a new job? Maybe make up random stuff in her curriculum? Maybe tell her parents and friends to help? Endless stuff!!

I totally enjoyed this a lot and it made laugh out loud! Super entertaining, fast and over-all fun to read! Definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to have a lil giggle!

3.5 rounded up. It did make me laugh out loud a couple of times, even though Becky was really annoying sometimes. I listened to the audio version and the narrator was outstanding, so that’s what rounded it up for me.

I never read any of the Shopaholic books and figured it was time. A light, easy,predictable read. Just what I needed after a string of darker and more literary works.

I can always count on Sophie Kinsella for a light and fun entertaining read.

I didn’t expect much from this book, having read two previous Sophie Kinsella paperbacks, but this one was even worse! I just wanted to shake the character out of her reverie and be done with it. Not hilarious at all. Not even funny. I have read quite a lot chick-lits up to date, but this one keeps going redundant page after page. I understand it is a light read for days at the beach with nothing better to do. Even though the last 20% is slightly better, what with her investigative piece of journalism, it keeps being cheesy and stupid till the last page. Sorry, maybe I should have read it when it was published. I don’t think I will give Mrs Kinsella another chance. So many good books out there waiting to be read!

It has to be said and there’s no nice way to say it: Rebecca, the protagonist of this book, is shallow and a fluff-head (as her head is always full of recently bought clothes, it couldn’t be otherwise).

The thing is, for me, the story went about for too long before I managed to see anything other than the bling-bling obsessed Rebecca. In fact, it took so long to drive this to an interesting point, I nearly lost interest (which, considering how short this book is, says a lot).

However, just in time, shopaholic Rebecca starts to grow in a surprisingly believable way. And because all the growth she experienced was in keeping with her self-centered character, it felt real, plausible, making her likable and somehow relatable.

I think that if Rebecca had grown into a miraculously responsible woman, totally transformed, changing her expending ways into frugality, I would have been bored. Instead, as she growths just enough to save her skin for the collectors and find herself a handsome guy, I was entertained.

This is not an earth-shattering book, not even a memorable one. This is a take it to the bubble-bath as you don’t care if it gets wet kind of book but it does offer a few good laughs and some amusing moments for an easy reading afternoon.

Bueno, ustedes podrán decir: "esas son películas para pasar el rato o superar malos momentos". Bien, mi pack de películas para soportar la "agonía y la desesperación de vivir" incluían Conan, Gladiador y Excalibur. ¡Ah! y una que otra de adolescentes en la universidad o en High School, esas me encantan. En fin, el punto es que básicamente mi pack salvador era el primero, todo bien Arggg y "go to hell, Crom".

Pero hace algunos años me di cuenta que podía incluir comedia romántica.

Y bien, en mi lista de favoritas está "13 to 30" (porque todo lo de amigos que se enamoran es lo mio), "27 dresses" (me encanta como desenmascara a su hermana mentirosa y abusadora) y "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" (es un retelling de Cuento de navidad donde sale Emma Etone ¿ya?).

¿A donde voy con todo esto? bueno, en este momento estoy pasando por un pésimo (PESIMO) momento en mi vida y me dije ¿por qué no tener un placer culpable lector para relajar mi mente? Todo el mundo que lee mucho lo tiene.

Algunas chicas leen romances de época otras novela erótica o de detectives ¿por qué no? Entonces recordé que tenia este libro y pensé que sería una buena idea probar con él. Nunca había leído Chick Lit ¿que tan malo puede ser? Después de todo se supone que este género es ligero, liviano y adorable, ideal para un mal momento como este ¿verdad?

Mmmmmm....

Voy a ser clara, esta no es una mala novela. Es entretenida, livianita, se lee rápido, es adictiva y cumple con la función de distraerte. Esta bien escrita, para lo simple que es el género y tiene personajes bien delineados. El problema es claramente Rebecca.Ella arruinó la historia.

Yo me esperaba una protagonista buen corazón simpática, de patosa, con una adicción mortal a las compras y varios problemas que resolver. Pero en su lugar me encuentro una snob, arribista, arrogante, inculta y vacía, a quien odié con mi alma. Un botón de muestra: lleva tres años fingiendo que sabe de lo que escribe en la columna de la revista financiera en la que trabaja ¿se imaginan los problemas de las personas que recurren a su columna buscando asesoría? y, esta es mi favorita, le corta las etiquetas a las ropa que NO es de marca para que nadie sepa que usa algo que no es "in".

No, ese no tu peor problema

No me mal interpreten, no es que critique que ella tenga problemas o defectos, todos los tenemos y hemos sido irresponsables algunas o varias veces en nuestra vida. Algo así como la Brigitte Jones de la película, pero menos ridícula. El problema es que Rebecca es una mala persona, egoísta, estúpida e inmadura, quien tiene la suerte enorme de que no le explote el lío que ha armado en la cara. Una suerte que sin duda, por su actuar, no se merece y porque, claramente, no ha aprendido nada de la experiencia ( y por lo que he investigado, nuca aprende en todos los libros que siguen). ¿Le costaba mucho a la autora hacer una protagonista llena de defectos, pero que fuera inteligente y amable, alguien con la cual empatizar? ¿Una parecida a la de la película? con al cual, dicho sea de paso, no tiene casi nada en común. Téngalo claro, el libro y la película prácticamente no se parecen en nada.

Ahora, leeré el segundo libro de la serie, porque se se que la peli está basado en ambos y porque me ENCANTA LUKE BRANDON, MUCHO y Suze, la amiga 24/7 que hace yoga. Quiero ver como se las arreglarán con el desastre que es Rebecca. También le daré otra oportunidad al género, con otros libros conocidos de la autora. De verdad, necesito algo que me aleje de mis lecturas "serias", en este momento sobre los Horrores de la Primera Guerra Mundial y el sinsentido de la cultura que nace después de ella.

En fin, lo bueno es que este es el primer libro de literatura de entretención que leo completamente en Inglés. Es super simple, así que no me costó nada. La verdad es que leo muchos pepers y libros "académicos" en inglés y alguno en francés, pero me atrevo super poco con lo que es literatura en si, pues las metáforas y todo ese tipo de cosas, son más difíciles de comprender cuando no es tu idioma materno. Así que seguiremos con el género, para practicar.

Resumiendo: Rebecca is a bitch. Eso.

¡Ah! Si, Luke y Suze son adorables y el libro no es malo.
