Un bellissimo romanzo che definirei sociale in quanto più che di una storia si tratteggia una civiltà, una cultura. Mi ha stupito positivamente anche la grande capacità di riannodare i fili, di dare una visione unitaria a quello che a tutta prima poteva sembrare una giustapposizione di storie.

Un romanzo sapiente, profondo, drammatico nella sua semplicità e nel suo non detto che più che un romanzo di esordio sembra essere il frutto di una penna navigata

إستمتعت جدًا في قراءتة، وبعد عدة صفحات من القراءة قلبت غلاف الكتاب بحثًا عن إسم المترجمة. فعلاً المترجم الجيد يصنع الفرق. لغة جميلة سلسة غير معقدة وكأن الكتاب كُتب باللغة العربية أصلاً.
نوع الروايات التي تنغمس فيها وكأنك هناك في قرية هندية وحياتك عبارة عن بيت ودكان ساري وزبونات.

أنهيتها بحماس للبحث عن المزيد من كتب دار النشر المترجمه من دول أخرى مختلفة كالهند والإرجنتين وغيرها
وأيضًا باحثة عن كتب مترجمة لنفس المترجمة
وأخيرًا عن رواية أخرى لنفس الكاتبة مترجمه إن وجد.

The book started with a peaceful-small-town vibe and then it changed gears and how. A very compelling read where all characters, conversations, reactions are ultra-real. The writing is very very good too.

Will look up more books by this author.

This book was a good read and dealt with fairly gritty subject matter.The people who worked at the Sari shop were all men and their lives were impoverished but this story really dealt with the stratums within the Indian society and the sad state of women within that society.It also called out the accepted state of male drinking and entitlement that crossed all the societal divides.

لأن لم يكن باستطاعته فعل شيء لما يحدث حوله!

"لم ينظر للمرأة مرة أخرى، رغم وجودها الذي فرض نفسه بقوة على المكان، كأنها المخلوق الوحيد في الكون بأكمله". تخيّل معي، صوت الروح و هي تستنجد، هل جميعنا نسمعه؟ أم يا ترى خوفنا من سماعه هو الذي يكتمه فلا نسمع صراخ أحدهم. تساؤلات كثيرة، عن الظلم و العدل، الفقر المتعفف و الغنى القبيح، الحب و اللاحب، ما هو حقيقي و ما هو غير مستمر. انتهيتُ من الكتاب و لم ينتهي الظلم المتراكم في هذا العالم.

While the writing could have been better, the story was extremely poignant. Rupa managed to convey the depressed and listless life Ramchand and some of the other characters lived. Reading this book makes one aware of the many privileges and luxuries that we often take for granted.

A very readable little novel, full with realism and charm. The story lags sometimes a little, but precisely its charm comes also from the fact that we are following realistic, not dramatized life. Made me think (in some respects) of Mistry's "A fine balance".

Slice of life story. Main character comes to terms with the issues around him, but then ultimately decides to stay as is in order to sustain his lifestyle. Kinda annoyed by the man rage over what's happening to a woman and then just rolls over and decides not to care bc it's too much of a lift.

Foi através de Ramchand, a personagem principal, que a escritora nos transmitiu a realidade indiana, os contrastes evidentes, costumes e tradições e ainda muitas expressões e termos em Hindi.

É uma estória que não é estória, mas sim a pura realidade.

Faz-nos pensar que existem pessoas que passam por grandes sofrimentos e injustiças sem que para tal tenham contribuído. Basta nascer.

É impossível alguém ficar indiferente com a leiitura deste livro. Mexe com os nossos sentimentos.

في هذه الرواية تتعلم الكثير من العادات والتقاليد الهندية والمعتقدات الغريبة لكل ديانة ، بل وحتى مسميات الأشياء والطقوس وحتى الأكلات .

رامتشاند البطل اليتيم بائع الساري هناك في ( سيفاك - بيت الساري ) يقص علينا ماضيه وحاضره ، أحداث يومه مع صُحبته :
من مدير المحل الوقح مهاجان ، الموكل من صاحب المحل بيمسن ست الطاغية البخيل ، ومن موظفيه : جوكل العجوز الحنون ، وهاري المراهق ذو العقل البسيط ، وشيام وراجيش العجوزان المميزان لدى مهاجان ، ولا ننسى تشاندر الصامت .

تدور الأحداث هنا في ( سيفاك - بيت الساري ) مع العملاء بجميع أنواعهن وأعمارهن وطبقاتهن الاجتماعية .

رواية تأخذك إلى بلد التوابل ،
تشعر أنك تسير حقيقةً في ضواحيها القديمة وشوارعها القذرة بين محال السمبوسة والمقاهي حيث يقدم الشاي بالزنجبيل .
ترى البؤس والفقر واضحاً بجميع ملامحه في أزقتها البعيدة عن العمران الحديث .

وفي حيناً آخر تجد أنك تعيش في قصر عظيم في حيِّ أكثر رفعةً وشأناً ورفاهيةً لا حدود لها ، وتشتم رائحة العطور الفرنسية وترى التماثيل الكريستالية في كل زاوية وركن !

هنا في هذه الرواية تجد أن المجتمع الطبقي مكشوفةٌ عورته ،
الظلم والطغيان ، الإنكسار والاستغلال .

في دكان الساري الأقدم في هذه المدينة تجد كل ما يخطر ببالك من أنواع السواري بل وحتى ما لا يخطر ، كذلك البشر تراهم بجميع أنواعهم .

لطيفةٌ جداً هذه الرواية . بل وأفضل ما قرأته إلى الآن في هذا العام .

This book is so evocative of an India that is difficult to know as a tourist. The main character works in a sari shop. He’s had a difficult life but is lucky to have this job. One day he’s chosen to show saris to wealthy women in their home and events build from there.
