Worth the read if you're willing to stop and practice their silly exercises seriously like a school workbook. Too many mnemonists uses the loci method which is effective but too slow and impractical for daily life. These guys make a case for linking and peg systems instead. This was actually helpful and I plan to return to the book and keep practicing their suggestions. A necessary book to combat the brain rot caused by outsourcing our memory to smartphones and computers.

High recommend! A book which enriches and expands imagination in ways never thought of, changes the way you view surrounding and the world. A fascinating book with tons of "memory system" that can be beneficial to anyone, as memory is the fundamental of learning.

This is the first book in memory I have read, so I learned a few valuable tricks...but 70% of this book is trash. Worth a read if you have never read any memory books.

This book is definitely not something to read once and forget about. I would use it more as a reference into learning a completely different system of memory that serves for any part of your life. Like the author mentions you should learn how to use the tools and methods discussed in the book to help you with memorizing numbers words people faces and basically anything. It's definitely a useful tool that can be mastered with practice and can turn out to be extremely helpful.

This book could have been a tenth of it's size. I didn't teach me much more than Joshua Foer's Moonwalking With Einstein and was much less engaging. Did learn a trick or two though, so two stars.

The Memory Book

I think that it has no new information but it has a very good summary of all techniques in a very clear way.

I give this book a strong 3.5 stars. This book really just has one strategy, and a boat load of ways to use it. The concept of making ridiculous associations to help you remember words/definitions is wild but effective. I would recommend this to anyone who would like to grow their ability to memorize material/names/vocab/etc. Outside of that, I think it is important to realize that this is a book on memorization, and not on learning. If you want to become more effective at memorizing material, this is a good book. (For maximum effectiveness I highly recommend treating this as a textbook with assessments and not as a novel.) However, if you want to grow in learning, I recommend something similar to Make It Stick by Peter C Brown, Mark A. McDaniel, and Henry L. Roediger III.

A must read for all students attending, or about to attend college. I read this book some 30 years ago and learned how to remember things by associating whatever it is I don't want to forget. For instance, can you name the 5 Great Lakes? Actually its quite simple: visualize homes located along the coast of a lake, then use that name (acronym) to name the lakes, Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie and Superior. This book gives many examples of how to relate something in order for you to remember a particular thing you want to not forget. I've used this info over and over again. I've actually bribed my grandchildren to put their phone down and read this book before entering college by giving them a monetary reward. They will thank me for it in the future.

Good and insightful!

Great to learn the basic mnemonics and easy to read. Suggest to couple this with newer ones from Nelson Dellis and Dominic and select the systems that you are most comfortable with. And like anything in sports, it requires persistent practice.
