The Super Memory by Harry Lorayne was possibly the most horrible book I have ever read; this is because of two things. The first this is the overconfidence that he has that he has written into the book make it more than hard to read. When I read these passages I felt urges to get up and through the book out the window. He does this throughout the book if you could call it that.
One of the most noticeable times was on the 1st page when Harry writes, “there is a hole world of difference between this book and others”(1). When he does this he implies that this book is better than others. Well he wasn't entirely wrong this book is different than others because this one should not have been published.
Another reason that I think that this book only good use is aas kindling is because the methods simply did not work. I attempted to use that method in chapter 6 and others and they didnt work. Another problem that I had is that the ideas were not original; Harry is far from the first person thinking that relating one word to another is a good Idea.
I would tell someone to get a third mortgage before I would tall someone to read this book. Thanks for reading.

Recently, we have been reading the book Super Memory Super Student by Harry Lorayne in class. The premise of the book is to give memorization methods and how to apply them to real life situations. Such examples include giving an abbreviation to a certain list of words and ordering them in a way to remember. Harry Lorayne is a magician and memory-training specialist. He was written various other books about memory and memorization. The author wrote this book because he wanted students to be successful in school with the memorization methods he came up with. The book is definitely very helpful, helping me personally, to memorize certain information used on the chemistry quizzes and tests.
tVarious chapters give many memorization methods to remembering certain information about that subject. One example can be the memorization of vocabulary words and foreign words. Other chapters include the memorization of important equations and formulas in math and science. Lorayne gives to remember are analogies and words that sound similar to the word itself. Another example is the memorization of formulas used in math and science. These methods are very helpful not only in school, but also in life.t
The argument the author uses is the memorization methods taught in the book are useful and that they should be used in every subject. One such example is the link system of memory. Lorayne writes that the best way to memorize a certain word, is to picture it in the most ridiculous way possible. One such example includes remembering the words “bottle” and “bed” (16). The given example is picturing a bottle sleeping on a bed, but other more absurd scenarios can be made up for it too. Something like drinking a bed out of a bottle. This memory device can easily be applied to any word that you would need to remember. For foreign language words, Lorayne instructs us to use sound alike words. To remember the word Hermano, since it sounds like air-man-o, he says to think of an air-man, and think of a ridiculous picture of your brother riding along with him (58). Silly things like that can really help a student remember the knowledge needed to pass tests and quizzes. A final method used to remember formulas and equations, would be to have list a word for every abbreviated letter. An example would be to remember the equation for KE=1/2mv2 would be something like “Kelvin ate one half of my vegetables squared.” Simple tricks like this can ensure a successful student.
There are various memory activities in the book to see if you can try out the methods that are given to you and use them. Remembering every U.S. president is hard, but essential in American history classes. The activity given to us is to list the first eight presidents. However a memory device is given to each of the presidents, such as James Monroe, and to remember his name, would be to relate his name to Marilyn Monroe (76). Another example would be to remember the hardness of materials ranging from least hard to most hard. To remember some of these, you could find words or phrases that sound similar to the actual material. The activity at the end eventually wants you to list all of the materials from least to most hard in order. These activities are useful as they show if you can apply the methods accordingly, and if they work for you.
The book Super Memory Super Student is very useful in giving memorization methods and applying them to situations inside and outside of the class. The useful memory devices such as similar sounding words, and memory link system are very useful. Not to mention the activities, so one could apply their knowledge to the subject. Super Memory Super Student is a book that not just every student, but everyone should be using.

This is a solid and uncomplicated approach to memorization that I believe will serve me well. My only hesitation in recommending it is that it might've been better as a pamphlet or web page - the ideas are rather simple and could be summed up in 10 pages or less. The rest of the book contains a variety of examples, which can be helpful in getting you started, but may just be annoying if you've already got an idea how it works and want to get on to content of your own. As a reference, this is easily worth the price of entry. As a cover-to-cover treatment of the art of mnemonics, there might be better sources.

Super Memory is one of the more interesting books I've read. The main theme of the book is memory and techniques. Henry Lorayne the author of the book obviously has years of experience with memory devices and using it. The main purpose of the book is to teach others how to memorize numbers, passwords, and other things in unique ways. I want to show you why you should buy this book and if you're the type of person that would find the instructions of the book useful.
First, of all, you can't be lazy. If you truly want to gain the most from this book you can't just read it, you have to do critical thinking. This involves having a good vocabulary for making the memory devices. It also requires time, if you're a busy person you might not need it on your list of things to do.
Secondly, This book is for people with inconsistent memory. Not everyone needs the book, especially for people with a good memory. This book is directed to people that have trouble remembering things regularly. If you already have a good memory or memory techniques, then the book is less useful to you.
Lastly, The memory device techniques given in the book require you to have a creative vocabulary. Maybe even some humor. The creativity is needed because it helps you create memory devices much faster and thoroughly.
Overall the book is good and well written. In my opinion the book didn't help me very much, however, it gave me an idea if I ever need to use the memory devices. If I had to rate the book from 1 to 5 stars, I would give it a 2. This book is definitely worth trying, not to mention it's a short read. This review should have helped you discover if this is the right book for you.

Super Memory: Super Student

Super Memory by Harry Lorayne is a book that looks to improve your ability to memorize information by using some devices and tactics. Harry Lorayne is an American magician and a memory-training specialist who is known because of his memory training. He gives and tells you about some mnemonic devices to remember different terms and other things like dates and numbers. Using these devices, triggers the brain and allows you to remember things easier and study more efficiently. This book shows ways to develop memory skills that can be very useful during your time in high school as well as in college when learning and studying new things gets difficult.
tThe first skill in learning information is to create a story based on the information given. Learning large amounts of words and dates can be tough when doing all at the same time so being able to do this will break up the learning to sections. With these words or things you can create absurd situations that will be remembered for a long time, the more absurd and weird it is the better off you will be. Being able to create stories will exercise not only your brain, but your imagination and observations skills that can be useful in other classes. Having the ability to create stories will focuses on your concentration, attention and awareness as putting them into a story requires thought that will eventually pay off.
tThe second skill mentioned in this book is the ability to make a memory game for yourself. Games are a great way to be happy and have fun at the same time as learning which can make a major learning/ memory problem into a game. This allows for critical thinking that can result in a larger capacity of learning in different forms: flashcards, games and lists. Studying is often a hassle and requires a good amount of work, but with games you will have fun triggering the brain cells and causing you to remember them easier.
The third and last skill in learning information is to picture the information in absurd and weird phrases and situations. Having very absurd and out of this world phrases and situations, the easier you will memorize them. This absurdness triggers the part of the brain that connects to your memory to intertwine and become a sense that can’t be forgotten in a short period of time. Being able to connect the information with a phrase or story creates a deeper understanding involving the topic or subject. This can be useful when applying this information to similar things that will remind you of the term.
tIn conclusion, as a high schooler this book teaches me a lot of skills that can be useful in my academic life as I continue my education. The ability to visualize the word and apply it can really help in the long run to understand the words in a different way. Lastly, memory can be taught in a slow process that has to be shown when given the chance to apply it to learning and studying.

The book Super Memory Super Student by Harry Lorayne does a good job in helping the students with memorization by giving good tips and study tools. If you put in the time and the work, it can really help you out with your memorization and can significantly reduce the amount of time studying if you use the tools effectively.

This book was assigned to us by our chemistry teacher, but not only did it give us tools for studying the things he was assigning us, it also gave us tips and tricks for helping us with our other classes. I learned that there is no way in getting around the work, but there are certainly shortcuts to help speed things up.

One of the things Harry Lorayne does a good job of doing is touching upon phonic devices. He uses great tips to help the reader get as much out of this book as they can. “Me and her are wondering slowly” (67). Harry definitely has some helpful tips but, most of them are very confusing, on page 38 he uses letters to memorize numbers, and on page 134 he uses formulas to help you memorize other formulas. These tips are confusing and should be changed to something that makes more sense. All in all, This book is very helpful and has definitely improved my knowledge.

Reading this book and fully mastering all of the methods in it is time consuming and takes a lot of work, but if you’re willing to put in the time and effort, in it can really help you in the long run with all of your academics.

The book Super Memory - Super Student: How to Raise Your Grades in 30 Days by Harry Lorayne is a book of tricks to help improve your memory. Harry Lorayne is a memory scientist. I was assigned to write this book review by my chemistry teacher for homework. This book includes many useful studying techniques, but some unhelpful tips as well. Knowing which technique to use can be confusing at times when you are searching for the right tool for studying.

tThe author divided the book into mini subsections for each technique for memory improvement.
He then explains of all of tricks in detail, and most of the time he will give an example of how you can use his ideas, such as applying the mnemonic devices during test preparation.

The book contained helpful points, but overall the structure of the book wasn’t cohesive. That’s because he would introduce the topic, but not spend enough time on it. The different tricks changed every chapter. I wish the author had included more examples of how to use each technique, instead of only one per chapter. In addition, sometimes he used odd words, but never explained them. Lorayne brought up the word “peg” a lot, but I never found one singular definition in the book for the word. Also, the strategy for memorizing numbers was far too long which made it quite confusing.

Mixed in with all of the negatives were patches of helpfulness. I liked the link system, which relied on pictures to help with memorization. It was easy to visual my notes when I used the trick. Substitution worked for me because the tactic was humorous. For example, if you have trouble remembering names such as George Washington, you can break it into “George washes town.” I liked mnemonic devices such as Brinclhof because they are beneficial to my studying.

The book can be a helpful resource if you are not a visual learner. It can improve your studying habits, but you have to read the book more than one time to fully grasp all of the concepts because it is complicated.
