Another short and sweet review.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE these books!!

Okay, so this one has to be one of my favorites in the series so far.

As much as the plot was interesting and a bit crazy, what I loved most was the writing surrounding Roarke. We get a deeper look into his past. And while his story has always touched my heart, the part of his past that is revealed here is heartbreaking as well as comforting. Eve's emotions and her strength was heartening. I adore her. I adore their relationship.

All my favorite characters were present too. Beyond Roarke and Eve we have Peabody, McNabb, Mavis, Nadine and Summerset. Then we get more of Webster, Baxter and Trueheart. Each one of these guys’ relationship with Eve is interesting. I can’t wait to see where J.D. Robb takes these characters.

I can't wait to read #17. ❤

loved that roarke finally learned about his extended family. but i forgot how he closed off from eve in that moment. it was hypocritical of him. loved bonding moments between summerset and eve.

❣️
“How come doormen always hate me?" she asked Peabody as they moved to the elevator.
"I think they sense your disdain, like pheromones. Of course, if you told them you were married to Roarke, they'd immediately fall to their knees and worship you."
"I'd rather be feared and hated.”

“What now?"
"We're going shopping."
"Sir, have you had a blow to the head recently?”

“Eve saw something that looked, sort of, like an underdeveloped, hairless monkey with a really big head. "Wow."
"See, you can even count the tiny, little fingers."
Which, to Eve's mind, made it all creepier. What did it do with those fingers inside there?”

“What's that? Is that chocolate? Real chocolate?"
"What?" Panicked, Eve shoved the hand behind her back. "I don't know what you're talking about. I'm working here."
"I can smell it." To prove it, Peabody sniffed the air like a wolf. "That's not chocolate substitute, that's not soy. That's real goods."
"Maybe. And it's mine."
"Just let me have a little-" Peabody's gasp was shocked and heartfelt as Eve stuffed the remaining chunk in her mouth. "Oh, Dallas." She swallowed hard. "That was very childish.”

“I think it's nice we're both having regular sex. It keeps us in rhythm."
"Shut up, shut up."
"Can't help it. I'm happy."
"I can fix that.”

“There she is. Hello, darlin'."
"Roarke." Every other thought flew out of her head, slapped away by love and worry. "Where are you?"
"In Dublin's fair city." He grinned at her.
"Are you... Are you drunk?"
"Well and truly pissed, that I am. We're well into the second bottle now. Or maybe it's the third. Who's counting?”

“See that you take care of my cop. I can't live without her."
"Take care of my drunk Irishman. I can't live without him either."
He blinked those blurry eyes in confusion. "What, Brian?"
"No, you idiot. You."
"Oh." He grinned at her again, so foolishly her throat burned. "That's good then. Makes us even. 'Night now.”

“It wasn't like that, Lieutenant. They were just talking to me."
"I love this guy." Baxter wiped an imaginary tear away. "Just fucking love him."
"If Baxter hits on you, Trueheart, you have permission to kick his ass.”

“I'm not going back with the cows. I don't love you that much."
"We'll leave the cows to their cow business."
"Which is what, exactly? No, I don't want to know," she decided as he pulled her out the door. "I get these weird and scary pictures in my head. What's that thing out there?" she asked, pointing.
"It's called a tractor.”

“You pop me something good, and you'll get a reward."
"You, naked, and a large quantity of chocolate sauce?"
"Pervert.”

“He's gone? The house is Summerset-free?"
"Left not twenty minutes ago, still limping a bit, but-"
"I must be slipping. I should've known. I should've felt it."
She kicked her jacket into the air, wiggled her hips, did what might have been a cha-cha down the hall.”

5 stars for the Roark/Eve storyline, 4 stars for the main plot.

The story about Roarke was so moving that I teared up a little a few times! Great characterization as always.

Hastings was awesome. I hope he finds his way into another book someday.

Portrait in Death is one of my favourites in the ID series. Roarke learns about his family, his real mother actually and he returns to Ireland to find answers.

The killer is a pathetic individual that is tough to detest - but murder is never an answer.

I like some of the side characters, in particular Dirk Hastings, the photographer or is that portographer :)

Sadly we learn about Crack's sister and his real name - very emotional part of the book - one of many in this one.

5 stars and 2 thumbs up - great read.

Cinayetin kurgusundan çok Roarke'in gerçek annesi ile ilgili hikayesi ilgimi çekti...Genel olarak güzeldi ama finale kadar yeterince heyecanlı değildi..Finali iyidir....4.5...

Is anybody else cried while reading of this book (or listening the audiobook) or was it only me? Because my god, Roarke's past made me cry like a baby... When he found out the truth, my heart broke for him... Ugh

The In Death series is highly addictive because the stories are intriguing and the main characters compelling!

In this instalment, we have a perpetrator who believes he is doing his victims a favour by taking their lives while they are in their best moment of their lives according to his twisted belief!

Eve Dallas is trying her best to put the pieces together but isn't completely focused since her husband Roarke is behaving strangely, and she has to figure out why! And since they are new to the marriage stuff, it's an opportunity for them to set a rule to make things run more smoothly in the future if a similar problem appears!

Alongside Eve's investigation, we have another mystery about Roarke's past that eventually will lead him back to Dublin, where we can see his growth as a character since he met and fell in love with Eve!

J.D. Robb doesn't falter with each new book of the series to keep me wanting to read more and be in the company of much loved characters and follow them as they solve a new mystery!

Another great thriller in this excellent series by J.D Robb!
Eve Dallas is once again trying to hunt down a serial killer, one who is targeting beautiful young people and taking their portraits before and after death. She also has problems to deal with at home with Summerset having broken his leg just as he was due to take his three week vacation and Roarke dealing with an astounding revelation about his mother and origins in Ireland. Everyone is out of sorts and Roarke and Eve have a serious fight that will require some patience and understanding on both sides. There is still room for some running jokes regarding candy bars, Peabody telling Eve more than she wants to know about her relationship with McNab, and Eve and Summerset's exchange of barbs.
