This would've been a weak 2.5 but that ending was so bad it's a straight 2. Anne Freaks has gone from thriller action to cop drama and now into tragedy in the final volume. Anne Freaks juggles its characters fine enough through its shaky changes in directions. I think it was best as a cop drama which the mangaka seemed to agree with as well seeing as they made many more after this.
The first half focuses on the climax and fallout from the cultist HQ situation and I felt the handling of this was not great. By jumping forward and intermittently flashing back it extended it instead of allowing it to be this big momentous climax. And it's broken up by catching up on each of the characters and it's just sorta lame making the climax feel even more dragged out and like it's there to keep you going through the boring parts the author wrote that followed it.
The second half is quite bad. It goes for this open-ended Bonnie and Clyde tragedy. But it just makes the duo really unlikable, doubles down on the weak Yuri and Anna romance, and makes Yuri this just one-note character who follows Anna blindly even though previously he had wavered occasionally giving him some dimensionality now he's just completely her puppy dog. Oh, and they kill the childcare cop who was one of the best characters. So, yeah. Kinda not good. Which is sorta this whole manga's deal where I just didn't care for much of it even as the writing improved and they found something of a groove in a cop drama thriller.

The art is nice. The story is dark (mostly violence). The characters feel a bit one dimensional. Only one that has any transformation is Yuri. So a decent, fairly quick read, but not a particularly satisfying one.

Quite an interesting series, definitely a page turner!

When I finished I asked myself why I read it, and then wished I could get the time I wasted on it back.

I didn't know why I read it. This isn't my cup of tea. I hated reading it from beginning to end but I couldn't stop.

Auf goodreads steht: >Triff Anne Freaks. Ein aufgewecktes, attraktives Mädchen, normal in jeder Hinsicht, abgesehen davon, dass sie auf einer Mission ist, ihren Vater zu töten. Den Anführer einer gefährlichen, extremistischen Sekte.<
Auf einer dritten Seite steht plötzlich irgendwas von professioneller Killerin. (Was im gesamten Verlauf der Geschichte irgendwie nicht zur Sprache gekommen ist.)
Diese ganzen Angaben sind verwirrend und treffen im Endeffekt zwar zu, aber auch nicht zu einhundert Prozent.
Guter Klappentext geht irgendwie anders...

Zwar fackelt der Manga nicht lange und wirft einen gleich in die Handlung rein, beginnend mit Yuris Mord an seiner Mutter, doch so wirklich überspringen will der Funke nicht.
Aus vielerlei Gründen.
Zwar dreht sich die Story hauptsächlich um Anne und ihre Gruppe, sowie das Vorhaben, ihren Vater zu töten, doch so richtige Spannung will nicht aufkommen. Nicht, als auch noch ein Sonderkommando der Polizei auftaucht, noch als sie endlich das Hauptquartier des Kultes erreichen.
Das Pacing passt vorne und hinten nicht, die Haupthandlung wird immer wieder von Szenen, hauptsächlich Essensszenen, unterbrochen, die völlig aus dem Konzept fallen. Hinzu kommen noch die Panels in denen die Charaktere als Chibis dargestellt werden, was eher das Gesamtbild stört und nicht so richtig in dieses Genre hineinpassen will.

Die Charaktere wirken flach und eindimensional. Selbst mit Yuri und Anne, die beide eine größere Rolle spielen, sowie Shono, die im späteren Verlauf der Geschichte immer wieder auftaucht, wird man nicht warm.
Man erfährt einfach zu wenig über die beiden Erstgenannten, als das man eine tiefere Bindung aufbauen könnte.
Mit Shono verhält es sich ähnlich, auch wenn hie und da mal ein Fetzen an Hintergrundwissen über sie eingeworfen wird, taucht sie im Endeffekt zu selten auf.
Was schließlich dazu führt, dass die Charaktere eher langweilig sind und somit auch nicht sonderlich zum Genuss der Gesamtstory beitragen können.

Vom optischen her ist der Manga klar und deutlich gezeichnet, ohne größere Opulenz, aber auch nicht zu viel Detail.
Während die Hintergründe noch ordentlich ausgearbeitet sind, wirken die Charaktere eher simpel, die Anatomie ein wenig hölzern und ihre Mimik steif, ohne größere, zeichnerische Tiefe.
Optisch kann man die einzelnen Charaktere zwar gut unterscheiden und trotzdem, würde man ihre Gesichter austauschen, würde es auch keinen allzu großen Unterschied machen.
Ein bisschen mehr Tiefe und Detail in der Optik der Charaktere lässt sich häufig nur in den Close-ups bewundern, die an sich nicht zu verachten sind.

Alles in Allem eine eher enttäuschende Reihe, die mich weder mit ihrer Prämisse, noch mit ihren Antihelden sonderlich unterhalten konnte.

Anne Freaks es un manga muy pero que muy desaprovechado. Si hubiese sido un poco más provocativo y hubiese aprovechado más sus personajes, podría haber sido algo memorable, pero después de todo, me ha dejado la sensación de ser un manga de psicópatas sin ton ni son.

Recomiendo Anne Freaks a los que seáis muy pero que muy fanáticos de las historias de este estilo: macabras y descabelladas. De lo contrario, manteneos lejos de este manga si no queréis caer en una espiral de asesinatos sin pies ni cabeza y en una profunda decepción.

Pretty decent series, really good art and characters but the story needs lots of help

What in the rushed /open ending did I just read. No answers or conclusion what so ever.

A Bonnie and Clyde like story, without the same ending, actually without any ending at all. There's a reason the story of Bonnie and Clyde lives on in people's hearts. There were some things that bothered me like how Moe and Yuri lookalike, but then it occurred to me that this was probably the intention of the artist. Because in Anna's heart they seem like accessories, and thus interchangeable.
The story was too short to really get to know the characters. Yuri's character was most developed, but still fell short. Anna's character was too edgy, it encompassed all the stereotypes of a killer girl.
The story seemed quite interesting, and it probably would have been more successful if the writer had taken their time to flesh out these characters, the major and minor characters. There is a lot of potential in this story and these characters.
What disappointed me most was the ending, or mostly the lack thereof. It just stops, without redemption or reflection by the main characters. The priest had some closure which I'm glad about, because he was one of my favourite characters.

Tldr: Falls short of its potential. Ending is non-existent.
