Professional baseball meets real life.
Roy Hobbs is a natural. He is also an asshole.
Good story with emotional moments and a touch of strange.

I saw the movie version with Robert Redford a few years ago. Both are good albeit different.

Maybe a bit undeveloped as a morality tale, so I found myself turning instead to the much more endearing movie version of Roy Hobbs and imagining the much more fulfilling outcomes of the adapted story. But, the Roy Hobbs in the novel is a bit of a creep who is beloved and jeered. It's a "What have you done for me lately?" situation where the fickle fans believe you are only as good as your last at bat.
