I owned this book in the 80s. Whilst I was losing a bit of interest in gamebooks at this stage of the era, the book was notable for the gathering of three of my favourite gamebook authors. For a long time since, I got cold sweats knowing that I'd put the book in a charity bag sometime in the 90s and it latterly has commanded eye watering prices on the internet.

Thankfully, I need sweat no more, thanks to a slightly modified version having been released. Not a lot has changed. Some errors from the original version have apparently been corrected. The cover is different. Jamie Thomson has been substituted to a "with" contributor on the inner pages, as opposed to an "and" co-author on the cover. There are some interesting appendices at the end of the book, the first part giving some detail as to the world the book is set in and its inhabitants, the second part explaining some of the backstory to the writing of each book in the rest of the series (although strangely, not the backstory of the book itself).

As for the rest of the book, it is the weakest in the series. However, the quality of the writing is still better than the vast majority and it does have a certain charm about it.
