Un peu décontenancée par le changement de décor, c’est avec peine que je me concentre sur ma lecture. Je retrouve Hamish et Towser, mais ils sont exilés dans une autre ville, dont la froideur rebute Hamish lui-même. Difficile alors de trouver un intérêt à ses personnages, non ?
Le meurtre pourtant est assez exotique, le nombre de personnages impliqués brouille les pistes.
Mais je me sens aussi exilée qu’Hamish et ce n’est pas l’apparition de Blair, détestable personnage, qui va m’aider. Jenny Lovelace peut-être, artiste du village. Quoique beaucoup trop sage et à la fois pas du tout fiable.
Pas mal mais je serai contente de rentrer à Lochdubh avec Hamish.

This is another just okay fluffy light read for me. I did think it was interesting to see Hamish chasing after a different girl after his constant rejection by Priscilla. I feel like this was a bit lost on me because I didn't quite understand certain Scottish customs and laws which were key to the actual murder, but I did enjoy the Scottish scenery and fun characters.

Ici une enquête assez intéressante où on ne peut se douter du coupable, ce qui pour moi est capital dans l’appréciation des cosy mystery et des polars.

Malgré tout je n’ai pas spécialement apprécié ma lecture sans la détesté pour autant.

Je continuerais sans hésiter, mais pas de suite, cette série de livres

Hamish is such a kind and compassionate man, who also likes to relax and enjoy himself. I have really enjoyed this series and getting acquainted with him.

Looking forward to more adventures through his eyes.

I started reading this series 20 years ago, and then got distracted. The books are still fun and quirky, and hopefully it won't be another 20 years before I read the next one.

This one seemed to have less pizazz than the previous two - maybe because of the grumpy town it's set in. Also, it has likely permanently affected my view of lobsters.

Good story. Could not figure out who dun it! Lolol.

As dependable as ever, a real bit of fluff but enjoyable all the same!

I really liked this part of Hamish's adventures. It was quite amusing and my favourite part was when he was paying back the locals for their silly jokes and hostile attitude. I could feel the climate of a small Scottish village very well. The intrigue wasn't probably the best this time but I enjoyed this book nonetheless. I think the characters were great and this made a pleasant reading.

Beaton, M.C. - 3rd in series

Nobody in the cloistered Highlands town of Cnothan, where Constable Macbeth is on temporary duty, had liked the abrasive Englishman, William Mainwaring, and now that he's been murdered no one much minds.

Enjoyable but light. This is one series where I actually preferred the BBC television series over the books. Never thought I'd say that!

If I had any doubt, this book confirmed that the big reason I keep reading the series is Hamish Macbeth. Beaton did use a fairly original plot device this time, and I liked the side plot with Diurmiad Sinclair (another strong character, which seems to be her strength), but other aspects of the story were only OK.

Several aspects of the plot and denouement were more asserted than plausible, and other developments were easy to foresee. Still, not a terrible way to spend a weekend. I laughed several times, and Hamish is always a kick. Having first discovered this series via audiobook on a road trip, I do think this would be a perfectly fine companion for something like that — enough to keep you entertained, but not so gripping you'd miss an important exit or something. With all the accents, a story like this really comes alive in the mouth of a gifted reader.
