Zusammenfassung der Handlung: Eine Geschäftsfrau aus der Schweiz verliebt sich auf einer Urlaubsreise in Kenia in einen Samburu-Krieger und beschließt, zu ihm zu ziehen und bei ihm zu leben. Sie weiß nichts von dem Leben, das sie erwartet, nichts von dem Mann, in den sie sich verliebt hat, nichts von den Traditionen und Sitten und Gebräuchen seines Stammes, in dessen Kreis sie aufgenommen werden will.

Die hohe Bewertung für dieses Buch rührt daher, dass ich die Einblicke in das Leben und die Kultur der Samburus unfassbar interessant und lehrreich fand, und es hat mir noch einmal vor Augen geführt, in was für einer privilegierten Welt ich lebe. Mich faszinierte auch dieser Clash zwischen den Kulturen und die unmögliche Liebe zwischen Corinne und Lketinga, die sich in die erwartete Richtung entwickelt. Not gonna lie: Die beiden waren manchmal nur schwer auszuhalten, aber das Drumherum war, wie gesagt, interessant und lehrreich - und der Teil hat für mich klar überwogen.

Also.
Die Autorin nervt ultra. Es ist sehr kulturell unsensibel geschrieben und manchmal dachte ich mir so ob diese Frau sich überhaupt noch spürt.
Ich hab trotzdem viel über Kenia gelernt.
Aber die Autorin ist nicht unbedingt das Paradebeispiel von Interkulturalität

If anyone could appreciate a book about an anthropological, inter-continental love affair, it would be ya' boy. However, oh man, did I hate The White Masai. I am sorry Corinne, I know it is a true story and your actual relationship, but it was painful to get through from the first page for me. The author's shallowness ie "my Masai was so beautiful that I left my European boyfriend for him. Now that I've moved to Kenya, I really need to buy a Land Rover. Why does he want to have other wives besides me? And everybody tried to talk me out of it, only to turn out that they were all right." Frankly I found myself saying, "sister, please get a grip on yourself." There are too many books to read on this planet, I had to admit defeat and put this one down before an international adventure of my own.

A drugo, i ono još važnije, treba ju biti sramota! Došla je u Afriku, pristala otići živjeti s Massai ratnikom, došla u njihovo selo i onda ih cijelo vrijeme pokušavala promijeniti, nametnula im je svoj način života, nije držala do njihove tradicije već je stalno silila da se oni prilagode njoj. Pa draga moja, što onda nisi ostala u svojoj Europi, u komforu i civiliziranom društvu, uštedjela bi svima (uključujući i meni!) puno muke.
