This book has an interesting way that introduces anger. Children can relate to the practical events that occurred that may cause them to feel angry too. The story line is clear and understandable for Pre-K; and the images are identifiable as to what he is feeling in the story. It allows children to think of problem solving skills; that may eventually help them take control of their own emotions and the ability to control them. It describes the things that come with the feeling such as: heat, heart racing and wanting to yell.

This book is classified as fictional with realistic concepts. The books targeted audience is children aged 3-6 years old. The story talks about having feelings of anger when certain things happen in life; natural reactions to anger and proper ways to conduct oneself when angry. The illustrations are personified animal characters that softens the edges of this strong emotion. The CONTENT focuses on the following S/E skills and concepts: Develop relationships and social skills with peers. I would use this book during small group time. We play ‘What Can You Do?” In small group I show the children pictures of children with different facial expressions and body language, I then gather their thoughts about how the child may be feeling. We then discuss how we could respond; I take dictation on their responses and post around the classroom.

Age: from 3 years old

It teaches children that it is fine to feel angry, but not to act out of anger hurting people, and it teaches to calm down when they get angry. The book doesn't talk about the child trying to solve the problem with the person who caused him/her to get angry, and that's an important subject. It only says "I can figure out what made me angry, or ask someone to help me. I can talk, and I can listen", but that's not specific enough.

This book was way too complex for a three year old. The recommendation should be 5 and up.

Work it out

Very good for a spirited toddler. Mine has trouble with hitting when she gets upset, I think this will be helpful

I picked this book because I feel that it is important for students to understand their feelings and learn to express them in healthy ways.

This book is EXCELLENT for helping behavior management. This book goes through life situations that happen and may make us angry and how we can successfully manage our anger. This gives many great examples and could be used as a reminder in the classroom if behavior starts to get out of control.

The idea of the book is great but it could have expressed other words for “angry”. Not all of the things in the book were anger. It does help open a discussion on what kids can do to deal with their angry feelings.

I really enjoyed this book because it teaches a very important lesson. Many young children struggle with anger and getting a grasp on it at a young age is very important. Instead of lecturing students about the emotion of anger, I think a good way of getting the point across is to read them this book. This book will show them and teach them how to coupe with anger and that it's not always everyone else's fault and sometimes is your own. Very good book book for all elementary classrooms, especially the lower ones!
