It is a good book in terms of having some fundamentals that have not changed, and since Al Gore has written this, has become more prevalent. Namely the immense issue with media, people feeling incredibly lost in a spiritual crisis, and a need for people to get back into a healthy spiritual relationship with our environment (I agreeing with myself cause I am a hippie, lol)
All of these things now having more focus than ever. Showcasing themselves as symptoms presenting in various ways through art, movements, and more.

I am unsure what to say on the other half of this book, which is of course the actual studies relating to climate change. Many things could easily be wrong, bare minimum outdated. Keeping this in mind, it's an interesting book given its perspective it offers being a product of '92 and Al Gore himself. An environmental, political and historical point of reference which I myself was most interested in.

Time to reread this... Al's been so prolific, often ahead of the curve.

I listened to the abridged audio book narrated by the author.

The book was initially written in 1992. The audio version I listened to was digitally remastered in 2010 and cut down to a little less than 3 hours. Even though the book was written quite a while ago, the book is still mostly relevant today. It is helpful to keep in mind when the book was written though.

The book contains good information about man's negative impact on the planet and how smart policies at the global level can improve the situation for everyone. Climate Change is a dominate theme. While I find the topic interesting, the way the information is presented in this book is a little dry. The audio book is short, and that's probably a good thing.

This is a great resource for concerned citizens that want real, unbiased data describing human impact and injury of this impact. On the other hand, it was sort of like reading an encylopedia...but of course that was 1993!

Fiiiiiiiiiinally finished this. I've been reading it for over a month. Life has held some big changes in the last few months so I haven't had time to read but I've been chipping away at it recently. This book was so beautiful. Probably the closest book I wood refer to as my bible. It's take on the environment and human spirituality was so lovely. This was written before An Inconvenient Truth and imo is much, much better. This is probably my favorite book I've read concerning environmental issues as well as an introspective look at humanity. I recommend!

This could have been such a great book, really. I notice with disappointment several cunning strategies applied in the political world: whereas Gore does justice to the underdeveloped countries (except anything that had to do with the Soviets, they were perceived as the ultimate devils in the 1990s, apparently), he uses these observations in order to support his future political claims, favouring US interventionism as a way of 'educating' and bringing 'democratic values' to other 'dysfunctional civilizations.' I find this rather ignorant, even for 1992. Sorry America, your days as a world leading power are over. Now go ratify those conventions (the rights of the child, Ottawa Treaty, convention on cluster munitions, etc.)

Although this book was a little hard to get through, it has a ton of great ideas that the world should've been following 22 years ago when Gore wrote them. Unfortunately, here we are in 2011 and only a small fraction, at best, have been implemented and global climate change is rearing its head more and more every day. I wonder what it will take before we all band together and try to fix the mess we've made. That day sure seems to be coming soon, it definitely NEEDS to be.
