This book was written in the 90s and so little did the author know just how much the internet would complicate our lives even further! This is filled with lots of great tips and ideas on how a person can simplify their life, though I love clothes too much to follow to much of her suggestions in that regard!

Quite dated, since this is from 1996, so tho there is a passing reference to getting bogged down by email, the book was written before there were even such things as Twitter, Facebook, etc. But looking beyond that, it was mostly just common sense advice, mostly very good, from someone who has really scaled the things in her life back a lot to be sure everything in it is exactly what she wants it to be. A quick read.

Lots of practical tips for simplifying your life in just about every category. Very practical and worth looking at.

It was pretty good. If you're just getting into minimalism and living simply, this book will be a good intro for you. If you already know quite a bit about the movement/lifestyle, you can skip this one. The author provides numerous tips and tricks which, as I said, will be great for the beginner, but anyone who's read a bit about minimalism will find a lot of repeat material. She does divide it nicely by category, though, turning what could have been information overload into nice bite size chunks.

last re-read. Started this in 2020 while struggling to read during pandemic-Trump times. Could only get thru one tiny chapter at a time. End of dec 2029/beginning of Jan 2021 break from work, and I eked out a finish.

2021 - good reset for the year ahead. Simplify. Goals.

This book has had a place of honour on my shelf for years now. It is an easy read that seems to resonate regardless of when in my life I return to it. If you can get your hands on a copy, read it.

My understanding is that this book is the ‘grandmother’ to most of the other books I have read in the simplicity movement genre. Most of the book consisted of pretty surface-level/common sense lists of suggestions about paring down your wardrobe or saying no to social engagements. However, every now and then there was a chapter when the author really wrote from the heart in a compelling way and I understood the real implications for these “small” decisions.

If I had read the author's two other books first, I might have had more to gain from this one. Mostly, it just struck me as 'oh look how awesome I am' kind of book as a lot of the content was letters from fans of her prior works.

It was quick to read, with some good tips, but nothing was life-changing.

I have read many books on how to simplify my life, and while this one was an easy and quick read, all the information in it seemed common sense-as if I could have come up with the information on my own. If you are just starting to think about living more simply, this book is a great way to get your feet wet, but not really for those who want to take their "simplification process" to the next level.

I loved this book. I wish there were more like it. It is a very easy read, but also very helpful.
