Um... I hate to be a downer... but I'm not entirely sure why this book has gotten a rating of 4.14/5 on here. I don't think any of the illustrations were funny; most of them were just stupid. I got a few chuckles, but nothing worthy of giving this a higher than 1/5 rating.

A good book to help teachers recap their knowledge on commas.

This is a great little book to teach grammar to little kids and the examples are perfect for the younger kids.


Funny enough this book is perfect for high school Pre AP kids. How? It tackles that gnarly little concepts that trip up my students.What I like to do with this book is use it as a warm up or intro to syntax along with other books from the same author. When students see the manipulation of grammar and words the idea of syntax becomes easier for them to understand as opposed to the strict definition.

If the kids are having trouble grasping onto syntax start with this book and see if it helps. It's also good for ESL kids or other regular kids who tend to forget the existence of commas. A friendly reminder is always a good thing.

A clever, well-designed book to introduce the purpose of commas in sentence. It gives some fun sentence examples of comma placement and also a grammatical explanation of the parts of the sentence (objects, nouns, dependent clauses, etc.) This is probably for older children.

Definitely a good book to explore comma usage. Some were quite comical in nature and could be shared with a class to show them how a sentence's meaning might change with different punctuation. There are explanations at the back if you miss the nuances of why the punctuation changes the meaning.

I love the importance of commas. Their placement can change the meaning of sentences, some with very funny results.
