I thought I had read all of Dick Francis, but this one caught my eye at a used bookstore in Boston, so I gave it a whirl. Not my favorite. I may have skipped it initially for that very reason. Who knows?

Not his best book, perhaps because it contains little horse racing, but a convoluted plot and an oddly constructed ending.

Dick Francis is often merely marvelous. In this book he is brilliantly lucid, thoughtful and inspired. A simply stupendously good read.

Usually I thoroughly enjoy Dick Francis, but this one is too much like other books I have read. I know Desmond Bagley wrote Wyatt's Hurricane so I think the description of flying into the eye of the storm is very similar to that description in this book. The cows on the island are also brought into play in another book by Desmond Bagley or Duncan Kyle I think, except that drinking their milk killed the hero in the end which does not happen in this book. Altogether, disappointing.
