Okie dokie....good read.

Can't get enough of Dick Francis....I always learn something new . I enjoy re reading his or Felix books, as I am a skimmer at reading, missing part of the adventure.

Another wonderful Dick Francis mystery. I listened to it on Audible while I was packing up to move and it was hard to push stop when I had too.

I do love Dick Francis. Easy to ead with lots of detail that doesn't bore, rather colours the story to make it believable and rivetting.

Roland Britten, partner in an accounting firm and amateur jockey, is kidnapped after unexpectedly winning a race. After being held several days below deck, he manages to escape. There is no explanation for the kidnapping - nobody seems to know anything. He goes ahead, trying to keep up with several accounting client issues - including some of his partner's, who is delayed in France with car trouble. Almost kidnapped again, he dodges the bullet only to be kidnapped still again. He thinks is all is tied to some embezzlers, recently released from prison, who vowed revenge. He finally figures everything out, with unhappy results. Typical Francis book - good, well-developed characters, and decent pace.

Join Ro as he rides as an experienced amateur in horse races, gets kidnapped and tries along the way to work at his accountancy job, figure out what's going on, and date Jossy, who he's just met.

All Dick Francis leading characters are essentially the same person; a nice, intelligent, hardworking and honest character who is tough and brave in a very understated way. All are involved in the world of horse racing in one form or another, and then run into a mystery. This is a great formula for a story, and I always enjoy reading them.

One of Francis' weaker efforts, I think, it still offers a good read. Not one I'd stay up to finish though.

When amateur jockey Roland Britten is kidnapped after winning a race, he is left with questions: Who has kidnapped him, and why?
By chance, and with the help of headmistress Hilary Pinlock, he escapes. When he returns home, he again wins a race and is again kidnapped. However, in the intervening days, his accounting detective skills are put to use.
This time, he is released, the kidnappers having told the police where to find him. He again pursues the truth and so armed with this information, confronts the guilty party.

This is not quite as good as other Francis novels, but it was an enjoyable read. Read it if you like accounting, financial crimes, and/or Francis in general.

From the start to finish this is another great Dick Francis novel. Just a great read that is fast paced and keeps you guessing. I do recommend this book...

I enjoyed this book overall, though honestly I wasn’t crazy about the way the romantic storyline ended. It was minor in the grand scheme of things, but ultimately not a solid beginning of a partnership between equals. I did adore the other woman who was a primary support character. And I do agree with other reviewers who talk about the sheer amount of awfulness the main character endures…this seems to be true of all Dick Francis main characters. I found myself wondering why an author would want to spend so much time in such awful mental places.

A solid, if unremarkable, work by Francis, marred by an abrupt, unsatisfying ending. The characters are entertaining, if a bit thin, and the pace is enthralling. If there's a little too much coincidence to be convincing, it didn't detract too much from my enjoyment. More a pleasant diversion than a major accomplishment, unlikely to win new readers over despite entertaining existing fans.

Dick Francis makes the profession of accountancy a dangerous one. Most accountants live lives of quiet desperation, but not Roland Britten, part time jump jockey and full time accountant. Someone abducts him just after he won a major race and imprisons him for more than a week. He doesn't know who or why he was abducted. An interesting read that wraps up nicely at the end.
