Great book for anyone

This book is not only for horse lovers but for anyone who wants better relationships with animals or people. It’s also a great story.

Loved the story. A very compassionate man with a a great life story to ell. Al was not roses. I think in my previous life, I lived on a ranch. In my next life, I would like to again live on a ranch.

This was absolutely a delightful book! And Monty Roberts is a pioneer in horse "joining up"(training).
He is kind and gentle to animals and people alike. It was such a pleasure to read of his life's work and his unique methods to calm horses and deer by learning to communicate with them - in their own languages.

great book for anyone with love of horses

One of the first and original people who really pioneered the whole "natural horsemanship" movement. An incredible story of a man who, after years studying wild mustangs, incorporated their natural, instinctive behaviour into all human interactions. The simple but highly effective method that quickly swept the world. A thoroughly enjoyable study of the beauty of actually working WITH nature and not against it.

A very powerful memoir by Monty Roberts on his growing up years - - the challenges and trauma he endured particularly at the hands of his father, and the understanding love he had for horses from a very young age. How this shaped his adolescence and adult years, and how his passion to change the training techniques used with horses evolved into a lifelong commitment, is the journey that he takes his readers on in this book. Lessons in communication between humans and animals, and human-to-human abound. Although at times his words made my heart cry, it is his strength of character and determination to do what is right and leave the world a better place that will remain with me now that the last page has been turned.

A deeply moving story about an incredible man with a unique admiration for horses. Educational and insightful. I had the pleasure of witnessing Monty Roberts demonstrating the techniques he describes, and it's even more astounding in person.

3.5 stars. I remember hearing about Monty Roberts in the late 90s and hearing how amazing he was with horses and what he could accomplish with them. I do not own horses or have ever really been around them but my husband has started helping a friend with his horses so I originally told my husband about this book and he is the one that told me to read it after he finished with it. I did enjoy learning more about Monty and his method. His life is tragic and triumphant.

Excellent book for animal lovers, especially horse people, or anyone interested in working kindly with others.
