Did you know this Little House book existed?? Somehow, despite Little House being my all-time favorite series even as an adult, I did not know about this book until I discovered it at a local used bookstore last week. Of course, it is not by Laura herself so I’d call this an honorary part of the series. It’s a short book and not as rich as the originals, but I really appreciated it for a little bridge in the gap Laura didn’t write about between the Little House on the Prairie years and On The Banks of Plum Creek years. So, highly recommend.

Very obviously written by a different author. I was so excited to find this "lost" book but it reads differently from the rest of the series.

This is a new book by Cynthia Rylant to add to the Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. It covers two years that were not included in Laura's books. In book order, it would fall between On the Banks of Plum Creek and By the Shores of Silver Lake. I love Cynthia Rylant's writing and she does a good job of capturing Laura's voice, especially in a few passages of nature description, but the writing is much more simple compared to the original books. The personalities of the family members don't come through quite as well, and Mary in particular nearly disappears. For all the events that are covered in this book, it's a very slim volume. It was a fun read but it doesn't quite rise to the level of the originals.
