Another short and sweet segment of the classic Little House books. I haven't read the original story to our girls yet, so I figured I would set the scene with these My First Little House picture books first. They are nicely illustrated and tell a simple chapter of the story, and they are engaging enough to keep a child's attention.

Artwork by Renee Graef (in the style of Garth Williams) enhances these short episodes taken from the Little House books proper.

Much to my delight, my boys who are five and two absolutely love these books! The "My First Little House" series takes stories out of the original little house books and illustrates them beautifully. My boys love to point out each family member and my five year old asks lots of questions. These books have become a wonderful way to introduce history and "the simple life" to my little ones. These books have great family values. :)

Winter Days In The Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder is about Laura and her family in Wisconsin. It goes through their daily life and the hardships they had to endure and the fun they had as well. This is a good book to read for a history section on the 1800's. I love reading Laura Ingalls because of the detail of her life and how her family was super cool with crossing the plains.

This is a great story for learning about what life was like in the “olden days” before people lived near a grocery store where they could purchase whatever they needed. We enjoyed hearing about the little girls’ simple pleasures of playing house and dolls in the attic and creating homemade paper dolls.

A perfect way to start a young child on the Little House books before they're ready for the chapter books.

This book was about a little girl named Laura and her family getting ready for a Wisconsin winter. It mentions her father having to go out hunting everyday for food for the winter and her mother having to do chores at the log cabin to prepare for winter. It talks about each chore the girls and their mother have to do such as churning butter, making bread, and washing dishes. At the end of the day Pa comes home and the family gets together and he will either tell stories or play his fiddle for the girls. I really recommend this book for young kids. It is very informational about living in the past on a day to day life. The illustrations in this book are phenomenal. If reading it to a class you could ask so many questions during the book to get the mind of the kids thinking about living in the past. A very warm and cozy book to read.

I had no idea that there were picture-book "Little House on the Prairie" books! I was so excited to come across one at the library and even more excited to read it to my children. And - the best part - my kids really enjoy them!! It's fun to introduce them to characters and stories that are near and dear to my heart. I love that the stories and illustrations are simple. And it makes me very excited to read the chapter books to my kids when they are a little older!
