An entertaining read. Loved all the characters!

4.5 stars. This was a wild romp and I loved it so much! Such a crazy family and large cast of characters. This would have been a 5-star read for me, but the very last line in the book used a racial slur. There is nothing else racial in the book, and I know it was not uncommon for the 1930s, but still left a bad taste in my mouth.

چیزی که منو خیلی اذیت کرد نوع عشق و عاشقی و ازدواج‌هاشون بود، آخه چیزیم نبود که بگیم «اون موقع عادی بوده»
شخصیت‌های کتاب به وضوح اشاره می‌کنن به اینکه ازدواج دکتر ۳۱ ساله با یه جوون ۱۸ ساله درست نیست!
ولی خب کیوتی‌های خودش رو هم داشت :*

One of my absolute favorite L.M. Montgomery books. This story about two quarreling fictional families in Prince Edward Island was just amazing. I think it is probably why I loved family drama stories so much!

Could this quaint book of family feuds and reconciliations been given any other name? I guess not. A better title than 'a tangled web' cannot given for such a narrative of intricate, invisible and strange ties that binds and breaks families (read clan).

Like many others, it was the magic of the Blue Castle which brought me into this Tangled web, to say that it was nothing like the beloved Blue Castle was a little disappointing in the beginning but the beauty of the PE Island and the sweetness in the writing of Ms. Montgomery were undeniable.

I had recently read the wiki page of this talented author and was amazed & saddened by her miserable personal life. Though out this book, it was the unhappy but understanding voice of Ms. Montgomery which was reflected in each of the characters... especially the hilarious, impolite, sharp and rather intelligent Aunt Becky. Even the dedication of this Book (to a Mr and Mrs. Fred W.Wright - in memory of a certain week of laughter) made me think how much bereft of laughter Ms. Montogomery's life must have been when the book was first published in 1931.

Coming back to the story line, the book starts with Aunt Becky preparing for her impending death by distributing her priced possessions to Clan with the exception of a historic Jug which is entrusted to be given out one year after her death and the book ends with the distribution of the Jug. A splendid book of multitude of characters with smatterings of romances & scandals here and there.

There seems to be a sub conscious connection between this book and the Casual Vacancy by JKR. Connection or no connection, those who liked the Casual Vacancy will end up liking this quaint little book too (vice versa).

I enjoyed this book much more than I ever dreamed I would. It masquerades as a vintage melodrama, but is chock full of essential life lessons - especially about the nature of true love.

When I see racial epithets in old books, I usually manage to skim over them as a product of their time, but the one in this book was the equivalent of a bucket of cold water thrown over my head. I'm still recovering from the shock.

Otherwise, this is a rollickingly funny and poignant story of finding hope in spite of crushed dreams.

لوسی ماد مونتگمری، نویسنده ای کانادایی که همیشه با قلم خاص خودش جادو می کنه و قصه ای می نویسه که در برابر دیدگان خواننده جون می گیره.
کتاب های مونتگمری رو می شه به مدرسه آموزش نویسندگی تشبیه کرد! از توصیفات درست و دقیق گرفته تا نکات ریز در شخصیت پردازی های متنوع و...

امکان نداره که مونتگمری صحنه ای رو توصیف کنه و خواننده در ورای کلمات، اون صحنه رو نبینه. امکان نداره مونتگمری شخصیت هایی خلق کنه که خواننده نتونه درک و لمسشون کنه.

کتاب A Tangled Web پر از شخصیته. شخصیت هایی از دو خاندان شلوغ که با ازدواج های بین خاندانی و روابط مختلف به همدیگه مربوط می شن و شما برای درک و فهمشون باید حوصله به خرج بدید.

هر موقع که کتابی از مونتگمری می خونم، به معنای واقعی کلمه عاشق تمومی کرکترهای داستانش می شم، حتی اگه منفور باشن. این کتاب هم شخصیت های دوست داشتنی زیادی برای من داشت. از گل سر سبد، عمه بکی گرفته تا عمه But و پیتر و...

برخلاف باقی داستان های مونتگمری که شخصیت اصلی نوجوانه، در این داستان ما با طیف وسیعی از کرکترهای بزرگسال سر و کار داریم و همین جدیت کار رو نسبت به سایر رمان های مونتگمری بیشتر می کنه. اما همچنان طنز ظریف مونتگمری در لفافه ی واژگان مشهوده.

Ehh. Her style changed a little bit, after Anne, and I didn't care for it as much. I missed the sweet wholesomeness! The stories of people are nicely woven together. I don't plan to ever re-read this, as I will my dear Anne.

This is one of LMM's only two books written for and aimed at adults (the other is "The Blue Castle"). There are a LOT of characters to keep straight in it, but I enjoy it. It's one of my favourite books by her I think. If you've read it, here's a question for you: Who do you think ought to have received the jug?

فکر کنم پر شخصیت‌ترین و پر جزئیات‌ترین کار مونتگمری باشه.
۱۰۰صفحه اولش قشنگ بود اما ادامه‌اش برام خسته‌کننده بود. پایانشم مایوسم کرد.

واقعا هم کتاب یک کلاف سردرگم بود، داستان درباره یک کوزه خانوادگی هست که برای مشخص کردن وارث بعدی، اعضای دو خاندان دور هم جمع میشن و این حضور و ملاقات دوباره افراد و قضیه وارث تقریبا روی زندگی همه افراد خاندان تاثیر می ذاره، بعضی ها کمتر بعضی ها بیشتر(جز سم ها،اون ها اون وسط به طرز بامزه ای با خودشون درگیر بودن)
این کتاب با بقیه کتاب های مونتگمری فرق داشت، خبری از یک دختر نوجوان با عشق و عاشقی های پاک و قشنگ نبود.
ما چندین بزرگسال رو داشتیم و دردسر ها و مشکلاتشون رو و عشق هایی که قبلا مونتگمری ازشون صحبت نمی‌کرد که خوب بود.
توصیفات به طرز قابل توجهی کمتر بود، با اینکه توصیفات مونتگمری خیلی قشنگن و راحت میتونی اون منظره رو تصور کنی ولی با کم بودنش اصلا مشکلی نداشتم.
میشه گفت کتاب درباره تاثیر اطرافیان روی زندگیت و غرورشون و عشق بود، حتی تو کسایی که خیلی نقش کمی تو کتاب داشتن میشد این نکته ها رو دید.
کتاب دلنشینی بود، تقریبا همه کرکتر ها دوست داشتم ولی بعضی ها طور دیگه ای تو ذهنم خواهند موند.
