This quote really accurately depicts how Anne lives her life and what makes you love her as a character. She's stubborn and makes mistakes, but she also has a huge imagination and sees the world as beautiful and full of possibilities.
I loved this SO much and I'm sad I never read it before! I love all the characters and the plot, and it's really fun to see Anne grow up through this book. The writing is also really really lovely.
I can't wait to read the sequels and follow Anne's story!
This has made it up to my favorite books of all time list, that's for sure.

I didn't think I could love this book more but somehow I do?? I AM SO EMOTIONAL.

O nowym przekładzie najpopularniejszej książki L.M. Montgomery wypowiedzieli się już chyba wszyscy, a najgłośniej Ci, którzy nie przeczytali z niego choćby jednego zdania. Ja natomiast mam już „Anne z Zielonych Szczytów” za sobą i myślę, że praca tłumaczki nie zasługuje na tak bezsensowną krytykę, z jaką spotkała się jeszcze przed premierą.

Autorką nowego przekładu jest Anna Bańkowska, świetna polska tłumaczka, która zajmowała się tekstami takich autorów jak Agatha Christie czy Daphne du Maurier. W wywiadach towarzyszących premierze „Anne z Zielonych Szczytów” mówiła, że miała tak naprawdę jeden cel — zrobić na tyle wierne tłumaczenie, na ile jest to możliwe, jednocześnie nie zabijając ducha tej powieści. Jak do tej pory najpopularniejszym przekładem książki Montgomery był ten autorstwa Rozalii Bernsteinowej, która tłumaczyła tę powieść nie z języka angielskiego, a ze szwedzkiego. Wersja zaproponowana przez Bernsteinową jest już uważana za klasykę i przez ponad sto lat żaden z tłumaczy nie odważył się zakwestionować tytułu "Ania z Zielonego Wzgórza", który miał wyjątkowo niewiele wspólnego z wersją oryginalną. W dyskusji o tłumaczeniach zawsze pojawia się argument, że lepiej mieć piękne tłumaczenie niż wierne, Anna Bańkowska pyta natomiast — czemu nie możemy mieć obu tych rzeczy?

Czytałam ten przekład dość krytycznie — na tyle, na ile byłam w stanie się od tej książki zdystansować — i zgadza się, że jest to tłumaczenie i wierne, i bardzo ładne. Świetnie czyta się ten tekst; Bańkowska nie gubi ani humoru, ani lekkości wersji oryginalnej, wspaniale udało jej się przełożyć bogate opisy przyrody i dialogi. Nie ma w tej wersji Zielonych Wzgórz, do których prozwykli polscy czytelnicy, ale w oryginale też ich przecież nie było. Krytyka spadła na Bańkowską za nazwę „Zielone szczyty”, a ja uważam, że to całkiem fajne tłumaczenie, do którego przwywykłam nawet szybciej niż się spodziewałam. Są takie fragmenty, które u Bernsteinowej podobały mi się bardziej — u Bańkowskiej nie znajdziemy np. tego słynnego cytatu „Pięknym jest czyniący piękno”, ale ogromnie doceniam świeżość, jaką niesie ze sobą ten nowy przekład. Bo tak naprawdę największą zaletą nowej Anne wcale nie jest wierność oryginałowi, a przystępność. Wersja Bańkowskiej będzie dużo łatwiejsza w odbiorze dla młodszych czytelników, m.in. dlatego, że nie ma w niej tych wszystkich przestarzałych „pokoi na facjatce”. Nie warto się do tego przekładu zrażać, bo przyzwyczajenie do rozwiązań zastosowanych przez poprzednich tłumaczy wcale nie oznacza, że nowa Anne wam się nie spodoba.

این روزا نیاز داشتم به یه کتابی که صرفا قصه باشه، غرق بشم تو فضاش و فقطططط لذت ببرم. و آن شرلی دوست داشتنی بهترین انتخاب بود.
من سریال های اقتباسی ازش رو ندیدم و کل چیزی که پس ذهنمه صحنه هایی از کارتونشه که تو همین جلد همشون گفته شد.
پس فک میکنم قراره خیلی بیشتر تو ۷ جلد باقی مونده خوش بگذره ☁️

This was a thoroughly enjoyable read. Anne is such a compelling character, and I loved her interactions with Marilla and Matthew, and with Gilbert and Diana. I especially enjoyed the early scenes when Anne talks on and on in a very witty way!

Some classics just are NOT for me; this is one of them.

We start off with 11-year-old orphan Anne Shirley and as bad as this is gonna sound but I know why she's an orphan. I would have either murdered her or given her up and faked my own death, too, in order to escape her!
She is accidentally brought to siblings Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert who wanted a boy to help them around the farm. For whatever reason, they decide to keep Anne anyway and we thus follow the girl and the people around her for the next 4 or 5 years.

I really don't mind stories in which nothing much ever happens as is evident from my enjoyment of Louisa May Alcott's classic. What I do mind are horrible characters. Seriously, was this a contest where the author needed to come up with the most horrible child she could imagine?!
Don't get me wrong, I never liked the saying "Children are to be seen and not heard" and I do like it when kids are creative and imaginative, but Anne is AWFUL. So much so that while I'm really actually NOT that kind of person, I wanted that girl to get spanked! Hard. And often.

It's not even that she never shuts up, though that was horrible too. I was a very imaginative child and I did like to spin my fantasies and tell people about them as many children do, but definitely never on this level!
She's also vain beyond belief, which is especially annyoing considering that she should be more humble due to her coming from nothing and having been passed around from family to family. Moreover, she's no beauty queen herself apparently.
However, by her own declarations she only likes "pretty things", which also means pretty people (when she thought about becoming best friends with any girl in the vicinity, she decided that she'd only befriend a pretty girl).
She mocks and belittles people for their looks but gets all indignant if anyone comments on her clothes or looks.
Everything is always a drama and if it isn't a drama, she makes it so.
She always acts as if she was better than other people, usually referring to her over-active imagination and other people being more down to earth.
She is silly, loud and obnoxious and often not even clever about it (although I did like that she appreciated the natural beauty of Prince Edward Island).

The thing is: yes, people did think badly of orphans back in the day (some even still do it nowadays) and no, that is of course not fair towards the children. How these children were often treated subsequently was even worse. Yes, I like people with imagination and an appreciation for nature. However, just because Anne is an orphan and good at writing stories doesn't make her the hero of anything. There is nothing cute or heartwarming about anything in this book. Anne is a horrible and annoying brat!

It did get slightly better in the last few chapters when Anne was 15 but that was not enough as a saving grace. Therefore, I'm just glad it's finally over and I'm debating whether or not I shall read the author's biography that I bought some months ago to find out what on earth posessed her to torture her fellow human beings so much.
2.5 stars GENEROUSLY rounded up in acknowledgement of the times this was written in, what it has apparently meant for ginger girls, that it celebrated imagination instead of being chaste, and the inspiration this has been to many people ever since.

might pick this up again later, but I haven’t wanted to read it in a month now. I think I need to accept that I am not the target audience and move on.

As most of you already know the plot, I won't write my own summary for this review. But, I really did enjoy this classic! I wish I'd read it sooner, though I'm glad to have finally read it. It's wholesome and touching - quite enjoyable!

لا أضع غالباً خمس نجوم لكتاب ولكني هنا أضعها وبسخاء.. فعندما أتمهل في قراءة كتاب ما وأطيل وقت قراءتي له خوفاً من انهاءه، واستمتع بكل لحظة اقضيها معه، ثم اشعر اني فارقت شخصاً عزيزاً على قلبي بمجرد إنهاءه، فهو يستححق بذلك أكثر من خمس نجوم وبجدارة!
بإمكاني القول أني استمتعت بقراءة هذه الرواية الراائعة بكل معنى الكلمة، ابدعت الكاتبة - لوسي مود مونتغمري - في روايتها هذه، فليس من السهل أن تتقمص شخصية طفل وتتحدث كالاطفال وتمثل براءته بهذه البراعة.

بطلتنا (آن) ملحوظة صغيرة، عند نطق الإسم لا تنس مد الالف واشباع النون .، ليصبح أكثر شاعرية! كما تزعم آن طبعاً..
تدور احداث هذه القصة في كندا وتحديداً في افونليا..

آن فتاة حالمة هي جرعة من الأمل والسعادة والتفاؤل مندفعة ومنطلقة هي شعلة من النشاط تمتلك المرح المحبب والشقاوة اللطيفة ببراءة الطفولة بلا تكلف، لكم أضحكتني خيالاتها وثرثرتها بلا مبالاة، فلا يمنعها شيء من الاسترسال في الثرثرة، فتتدفق أحاديثها وأفكارها كالنهر الجاري لا يتعب ولا ينضب، كانت صادقة في تعبيرها صريحة بغير وقاحة، تسعدها أشياء بسيطة كم هي قنوعة آن .. لا تملك سوى الخيال.. وهو يكفي لإسعادها، تضفي روح المرح والسعادة في أي مكان تتواجد فيه، فيكفي أن تتخيل ما تريد ليَقنع قلبها الصغير ويَسعد، تتمتع بطلتنا الصغيرة بخيال خصب، الخيال الجميل الذي يساعدها غالباً على تعدي الازمات فتعيش اللحظة وتستمتع بجمالها.. تتصرف على سجيتها وطبيعتها الطفولية، تبوح بمشاعرها بأريحية..
أحببتك يا آن أحببت روحك الطفولية الممزوجة بالشقاوة وحتى تلك الثرثرة ..

وصفها جميل فعلاً انا اشعر اني ارى ما كتبته بل اكاد اعيشه، ارى المنازل الريفية وتلك الأشجار على جانبي الطريق ، والهواء العليل في المرتفعات، لطالما احببت الريف وتمنيت العيش فيه، والان بوصف جمال الريف في هذا الكتاب فأنا عشت فيه بتفاصيله، بجمال وصفها فأنت لا تمتلك سوى الاستمتاع بجمال الطبيعة، احببت كل مافي الكتاب واحببت تلك التفاصيل الصغيرة ..

بعض شخصيات الرواية:
السيدة ريتشيل: فضولية دقيقة وشديدة الملاحظة والتي أظن انها توجد في كل مجتمع نسائي.
ماثيو: شخصية خجولة، طيب القلب، يحسن الإستماع لثرثرة صغيرته.
ماريلا: جادة تخفي مشاعرها بالرغم من رقة قلبها وطيبتها.
ديانا: صديقة آن المفضلة جميلة ورقيقة.

حظيت برفقة مسلية وممتعة، ارجعتني إلى سنوات ماضية إلى زمن الطفولة الجميل .، إلى خيالاتنا وأحلامنا الصغيرة، كنت خيالية نوعاً ما ولكن لا أجاري آن في خيالها بالتأكيد ومن يجاري آن في ذلك، بل ومن كـ آن !
استمتعت بالكتاب استمتاعا لدرجة اني لا أتركه إلا مكرهة .. ركنت كل واجباتي على جنب وشرعت بمتعتة قراءته فقط
والآن نصيحة لا تقرأه إلا وأنت خال البال ومتفرغ لهذه الرواية فقط ..

ولا اغفل عن المترجمة "سكينة إبراهيم" كانت ترجمتها راائعة ومتقنة جداً، شكر خاص للمترجمة هكذا تكون الترجمة وإلا فلا ..

This was so refreshing and amazing and cute and just HEART WARMING. The character development in this book is amazing.

Anne has definitely become one of my favourite characters of all time. Her outlook on life is so inspiring and she is one of the most unique characters I've come across! I think the reason it didn't get 5 stars is because it was a little slow at times, but I still love love loved it.

Also, I highly recommend listening to the Rachel McAdams audiobook. Amazing!!
