It was a retelling of the classic Beauty and the Beast. I liked it, but I wish there had been a little more of the romance between them. The Beast was only in the second half of the story, and it is not a very long book. The first half of the book mostly deals with Beauty and her family. I guess this story was suposed to be about Beauty and who she was as a person.
I also wish it would have explained the enchantment and the reason behind it a little bit more. Like I said, it wasn't a very long book.
The only thing that I really didn't like was that once the Beast was freed from his enchantment he aged. Not a lot, considering he had been under the spell for about two centuries, but I think he turned out to be about 40 years old or so. Beauty was still in her teens so it sort of gave an icky feel to the ending. I should have guessed something was up when it mentioned his "fur " was streaked with grey.
