Having recently read "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" for the first time, I wanted to read this story. I ended up enjoying the book and feeling pleasantly surprised by it.

While the sequel may not reach the brilliance of the original, it holds its own charm. One of the elements I appreciated was the underlying message of social responsibility, woven into the fantastical narrative. The story might be set in a whimsical world where food falls from the sky, but it subtly encourages readers to think about the consequences of abundance and waste.

The familial bonds depicted in the book also stood out to me. I mostly enjoyed the close relationship between the children and their grandfather.

The giant, outlandish food scenes, captured my student's attention! This made for a great writing prompt.

In summary, while the sequel to "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" might not achieve the iconic status of the first book, however it provides a fun and engaging read with meaningful messages.

Um... sequels almost never measure up to the originals. And this book, while charming, is no exception to that rule.

Pickles To Pittsburg
PLOT: In a dream, Kate and her brother Henry take to the skies and land in what was formerly the town of Chewnswallow. In this sequel, we get to see what's become of the town that got demolished by a gigantic food storm.

MY THOUGHTS: The illustrations are still just as charming as Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs. However, it wasn't what I expected. I expected a different story. This story takes up where the last one left off. The town is now renovated into a place that collects all the food remains and ships them off to people that don't have enough food all over the world. Which is a brilliant idea and I love it BUT that's the whole story. And then the Grandfather comes home from the trip with a big chocolate chip cookie just like the one that they got in the dream. Meaning maybe there was more to the dream. Which is interesting when you think about it, because the idea that Kate and Henry actually visited an "imaginary" place in a dream that's real is a far more interesting plot to build on. Just my opinion. More so if the dream cookie would have been beside them in the bed when Kate woke up. I think I liked the original story WAY better. This one felt like a letdown after the first.

Although the story is told from a child's point of view, it really wasn't nearly as good as the original. The illustrations seemed a little off as well. disappointing.

Here is the sequel to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. This is about a girl dreaming of a land where food falls from the sky. They explore the entire land and find that the people collect all the food falling and export it to the rest of the world to feed hungry people. They are able to wipe out hunger. OJ falls from the sky, there is a pea soup collection pond and they collect melted ice cream. The girl wakes up and shares her dream with her grandfather.

I think I enjoyed the first one better, but this was pretty good on imagination. At least some industry was collecting the food and shipping it out. I do wonder how they keep it fresh. It starts off with black and white artwork, but the girl’s dream is in color.

The nephew loved this story. Falling hotdogs and hamburger mountains appealed to him. He thought this would be too cool to see. He wanted a giant donut he could jump through the hole. He gave this 5 stars and he then asked for a snack.

This is great book that teaches kids about imagination. I would use this book to have kids create their own world where anything could happen. In this book the two kids fall asleep imagining about where their grandfather has been traveling. This would be a great read-aloud book in the classroom!

This book is everything you loved about Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs but supersized! and I do mean literally! All of the food you loved to watch falling from the sky now still falls down but in super sized fashion. All of the food is bigger than life and so is this story. It is the perfect circle story that will bring a smile to your face. The journey the kids start comes back to them at the end when they visit their dear old grandfather.

I highly recommend this book to kids, especially if you loved the first one. The illustrations are classic and very descriptive without using any words! The text box makes it easy to find the read the words without getting lost in the chaos of the pictures. The frames around the drawings box the illustrations up like a little boy around a present, which is exactly what they are, a gift to the reader!

This captures the imagination of the original quite well, and I love that it gets turned into a tall tale for grandpa. The illustrations are quite nicely and softly colored. There is also a message of helping those less fortunate with the donation of Chewandswallow's giant food to any nation that needs it.
