Little Miss Splendid sure is snooty. She won’t talk to the regular little people. She won’t ride the bus. She’s rude and self-important. She walks into town and finds a hat in the window. She buys it without looking at the price. Then she tries to take a taxi home and her hat won’t fit in the door. She won’t ride the bus so she walks home and it rains on her. Sometimes there is a little justice in the world. She and her hat look a mess. I do not like Miss Splendid, she is anything but.
This was cute. Again, I got the nephew to read it with me. Mr. Happy, Mr Small and Mr. Daydream are all players in this book so he was able to get into the story. He said he liked seeing Miss Splendid get all wet. He laughed. He gave it 3 stars.
Sometimes Mr Men and Little Miss books don't have a clear moral at the end! Little Miss Splendid gets a sort of comeuppance during the story but we end on her carrying on with he splendid life unphased. I mean, I guess that's realistic: most people won't have an about-face after the loss of one hat.
I don't actually remember what this is about, but I do know that I called a girl I went to school with Little Miss Splendid with my family. We all still call her that 25 years later!
Splendid. What a way to describe a character to the young. She has class, expensive taste and her nose is always up. But unfortunate things happen but she being splendid and all that will be picking herself up and carry on living in her splendid world.
I tried to force these books on my own children as I'd loved the Mr Men books as a child and was miffed that there were no women until I was too old to want them. Maybe I just tried too hard, or maybe there are more books available to children these days than I had.
I loved these books as a kid. I read the few I still have to my nieces I wish I had more. This one is a fun little book about little miss splendid who thinks she is above everything until she is caught out in the rain and taught a little lesson by mother nature.
