This book wasn’t what I expected. For one I didn’t expect a Lord of the Rings level epic with just as many characters. Two, WHY ARE THERE SO MANY CHARACTERS??? I honestly could not keep them all straight. Can’t say I’m a fan. I don’t know if I want to continue this series. Does it get better? Are the stories all one off or do you have to read them in order? I’m genuinely asking, if you see this, reply and let me know. And tell me your favourites in the Redwall series!

Once again, this is a children's book, while I am far, far away from my childhood...

Just finished Redwall#2, and it was adorable! I liked it just as much as the first book, but I thought the author is a bit too bloodthirsty for such young audience. Loved the characters, including some of the ones on the wrong side of the conflict. The story is a bit better structured than the first one and if you are listening to the audio, the songs of the poet are an absolute treat!!! I am so glad I got to read something light and pleasant during these weird times... I once again wish I had read this as a kid, but since it kind of reminded me, in feel not in thematics, of one of my old time favorite authors, David Eddings, now I feel like re-reading some of his stories... If only we had the time to read and re-read everything....!

One of my sons enjoyed the Redwall books and I found this one in our family library. It is a fine tale of adventure but is slow reading -- there is heavy emphasis on the warm, cozy dinners the animals share, on the lovely ambience of the animal world, mixed in with threats from evil cats, stoats and foxes. But I struggle to keep reading in the slow passages and skip on. Ultimately (of course!) the good people win and the evil animals are defeated. As it should be.

They say you should never go grocery shopping when you are hungry and I'm inclined to think you should also NOT write a book while you are hungry.

Really I am a little over half way and am thoroughly bored with the mentions of food every 4 or 5 paragraphs. The characters are not so interested in freedom as they are in eating! I really think the full paragraph descriptions of every freaking lunch could have been omitted without hurting the book in anyway.

Other than that frankly, the book is slow and badly paced. Every time some excitement starts the author cuts away to another set of characters having boring adventures for several pages and by the time he returns to the excitement, the reader has either forgotten or doesn't care. It's like reading The Hobbit and the story of the Shire laundry day in one book.

Sharing with my kiddos this Kingdom of redwall and now Mossflower has been such a delight. Good vs evil written beautifully and with such endearing characters and wise dialogue. We have the first six of the series and hope to work through them.

Charming, of course. Simple good versus evil. I would have appreciated more nuance to the "bad guys.". But, it is for children. I'd love to share it with any I have in the future.

Tsarmina the wildcat and her army of pure evil have taken over Kotir, and Martin the warrior finds himself locked up in a dungeon. It is there he meets Gonff, mouse thief and excellent escape artist. The two become great friends and escape the cell. They venture deep into Mossflower to live with the woodlanders and they plot to bring Tsarmina down.

Martin, Gonff and a mole known as 'Young Dinny' travel to the far land of Salamandastron in search of the greatest warrior to ever live...Boar the fighter, as he is their only hope to reclaim Kotir...

I read the original Red wall about a year and a half ago and really enjoyed it, and I was unaware until recently that there was a second one and even a full series. I really enjoyed this book and found it very intriguing and interesting. I plan to read the original book again at some point as I do not really remember it and maybe even the rest of the series.

My favourite characters in this book were definitely Martin and Gonff. Martin was the sort of hero of the story and he was extremely brave and daring, whereas Gonff on the other hand was a joker/comedian and he always seems to find the positive in the most negative situations. I also quite liked Young Dinny as he was also quite funny and he was quite adventurous and was an overall fascinating character.

The book was very 'adventure themed', although it has its moments of action throughout. These included a chapter near the end of a big battle between Martin and Tsarmina. It was also themed a bit on Friendship and also consisted of a few significant betrayals.

It has been quite some time since I gave a book five stars. This world, Redwall, is imaginative with many varied and loveable characters. I will certainly continue with this series. Not dissimilar to Warrior Cats by Erin Hunter however with mice, and other delightful 'woodland' personalities.

It's fascinating how clearly this is written to be read aloud: every chapter has action! That means that a *lot more* happens in the book than I expected; lots of good adventure.

My 10yo loves this book and asked me to read it. I'm glad I did. I would absolutely love this book as a young child, and so I rate it with that mindset. Woodland creatures, daring adventures, big fights...what more could a fifth grader want!
