Somehow I completely missed reading these books as a child. While I admit I still prefer L.M. Montgomery's Anne and Emily (being more like myself as a child), I found Betsy, Tacy, and Tib a delight.
Ive read the Betsy-Tacy books since I could first read. I’m 71 now, and they have not lost any of their charm. During covid, when the world became quite scary, I turned to them for some comfort and joy. I love all the books, grade school through high school and on to when the girls become young ladies. I think Betsy and the great world is my favorite. I will never tire of these books.
Absolutely lovely. And I cannot recommend these treasury books enough. They include so much information at the end about the real life Betsy-Tacy characters and the author and illustrator. A must have if you're a fan of Maud Hart Lovelace and a book junkie.
I'd never heard of this series until Margaret Atwood mentioned them in an interview in the NY Times book review section a few months ago. The little girls are cute and adventurous, home life is idyllic.
Great read aloud with my daughter. Lots of good memories from reading them as a child, and now, sharing memories with my daughter, chuckling and discussing these long ago lives that still seem to fresh and identifiable to us.
I absolutely adored this treasury of the first four Betsy-Tacy books! This series truly is a treasure and so precious to me. Maud Hart Lovelace depicted childhood so perfectly in these books, and in many ways, it feels like a big short story collection. The adventures that Betsy, Tacy and Tib get into are very memorable and wholesome! This is really the epitome of clean, fun family entertainment. They are cozy and so much fun to read. These are definitely some of the 'children's' books that really transcend to readers of all audiences. You're never too old to read the Betsy-Tacy series! Although I do wish I read these books when I was younger, I'm so glad that I found them now. Better late than never, right? I'm so excited to move on to the high school books and beyond. I just want to live in Deep Valley and be friends with Betsy and everyone in her life!
Five glorious stars. I never read these as a kid but I had a close friend who did and oh my goodness are these adorable. Even at 25 the charm of these stories was not lost on me. I highly recommend them to everyone. I can’t wait to read the rest!
This series is so delightful. I'm so glad that it was recommended to me. I love how the novels evolve as Betsy does, particularly in Betsy and Tacy Go Downtown. I'm excited to keep going.
We stopped reading after making it through 3 or the 4 books in this treasury, because I think they were getting a bit too complex for my 5-year-old, but she really wants to keep going with them, and so do I—when she's a bit older, we'll definitely continue this delightful series, which rings so true, even 70 years later.
Oh my goodness. My mom had been telling me about these books since I was little. My only regret is that I did not listen to her until I was an adult. I remember wishing, when I was 5 years old and reading Baby-Sitters Club books, that there were intelligently written chapter books about someone my age. And I never knew there were. These books were so enchanting, every one better than the last. I've requested the next set from the library already. I absolutely loved them.
