Not enough maps and poorly organized.... Alphabetical, not locational, so I have to take these ideas and go to the internet to find out if they are near where I'm going. The special indexes are useful... I can easily look up all the surfing places, etc, but that doesn't make up for the fact that this requires a lot of additional time to lookup where everything is.

I love lists especially of the to-do variety, I love to travel and because of this I love this book! Before I bought this domestic version, I acquired the original "1000 Places to See" which I also loved but since Im usually on the broke side there was a lot of sighing and "How will I ever see all these amazing places, how oh how" Well this book has a lot less of that, of course there are a thousand(!) places so unless I spend my rest of my life on the road (if only!!) I wont be completely this thorough, interesting, and insightful list but I do get to use my highlighter pens (yellow for "I want to go", pink for "oh yeah Ive been) quite a bit more!

This is a good reference if you are moving or looking to explore a new area.

Some areas are so highly covered that I have to wonder what are the stretch locations and what are the real favorites? There are a lot of golf and spa type locations in the book that I would not have chosen but overall I agree with the list.

I didn't read this book cover to cover; I think that's pretty obvious. However, my summer road trip is finally planned, and I think it's time to take this off of of my currently reading shelf.

If you have a specific place in mind, this is not the book for you. However, I didn't know where I wanted to go for my road-trip, so this was a good guide in pointing some of the less obvious destinations. I kept a running list of places that looked interesting, and this book will also serve as a guide for future road trips.

If you're curious, I picked Asheville, NC as the main destination for my 6 day road trip. I'm pretty proud of the itinerary I made for the three day stay in Asheville, so if you're interested, just let me know and I'll send it to you! In planning, I mainly used Moon Asheville & the Great Smoky Mountains, but I also looked at this book, How to Travel the World on $50 a Day: Travel Cheaper, Longer, Smarter (and the blog by Nomadic Matt), and Fodor's Travel.

This book made me reminisce and dream.

When you pick up this book and browse through it, it would make you fall in love with the places, so absolutely, that you would really want to go to them.

This is a wonderful companion book, and I'll sure to carry this on my travels. and make sure to myself that I'll travel these 1000 places before I die. :)

Since I am trapped by COVID I have been indulging in travel porn and building my list of places to go once I'm free. This book is pretty good for that as road trips are probably going to be the most accessible travel adventures for a while.

I would be interested to see what didn't make the cut. I'd say that 7-800 of the 1,000 are places I might like to go or have already seen. The ones I'm not interested in are mostly golf courses and resorts. I like resorts, but the ones this book recommends are more expensive and less fun than I'd like.

There are lots of places that I had not heard of, which is the best reason to read this book. North America is full of things to do and I think this gave me at least 100 places to go that I wasn't aware of before reading.

I was really pleased to see that I have already seen a lot of the places listed in this book. It made me realize how lucky and blessed I was that my parents made sure that my siblings and I saw these places while we were growing up.

A good giant checklist and idea book of things you should do all over the US. Some of them are on the expensive end, but I find this as a great place to start when I am planning a trip to a new area. Definitely gives me the ideas about what's cool in that place and what the highlights are that I wouldn't want to miss.

I just recieved this as a first-reads-giveaway and I'm so thankful! I came at just the perfect time to start planning our spring and summer get aways. It gives just enough information to grab your interest on tons of different places. It's very well put together and easy to read. It's also just compact enough to fit nicely in my car on our trips! Thanks again for this great book!

I just don't get why these books are so popular. Both the ones I've read so far have been a disappointment. With a name like "1000 Places to See Before You Die" I expect some great locations, specific adventures and great things not to be missed.

Instead, what I got was vague towns, rather than explicit locations, not a lot of places that, as a traveler, I think really SHOULD be seen, and not a lot of effort to really inform people of what this country has to offer.

This book is so lame. Yes, yes, we all know that we should see Lake Tahoe before we die. Is there somewhere in the area that I missed? That I perhaps DON'T know about? THAT is the kind of book we are in need of. Not a book that lists The Grand Canyon and Las Vegas Buffets as places we need to see.
