All I can say is that I'm soooooooooooo glad I was not on a plane listening and following along to this story. It was really interesting, typical Crichton, and definitely entertaining. It took me it seems forever to get through it here and there only because Crichton used to be pretty deep in the description of research and information on whether it's technology or medical, or science stuff. Though this kind of reminded me a little of his book The Andromeda Strain when in that one, you're in a lab doing research and testing a new form of space-like virus or something that somehow killed everyone in a small town except for a baby and some crazy delusional guy and they're trying to figure out what this thing is, how it works, and it's as if you're truly right there with them in this state of the art secret lab of sorts and on a behind the scenes/curtain of the process of a virus or something being tested but also trying to figure out how it managed to not harm or kill a baby and some delusional crazy guy but it killed everyone else all over this town.
AIRFRAME was a form of a behind the scenes/curtain as well but it had to do with aircraft, aerodynamics, and hence the title, airframe stuff where there was an unfortunate horrific incident with three passengers dead and fifty-six more people were injured with "the interior cabin virtually destroyed. But the pilot manages to land the plane...."
One way to describe this book is from the inside flap or the description where it says, "Airframe is nonstop reading: the extraordinary mixture of super suspense and authentic information on a subject of compelling interest that has been a Crichton hallmark since The Andromeda Strain."
Seriously though I have to agree which is why I'm comparing with the way this particular book was like a set up and written like the Andromeda Strain was and Airframe was just fascinating and so much fun to listen/follow along to. Although, I do advise as I was told when I first started this was to not fly a plane so soon after reading this book or be glad I wasn't on an actual plane while reading it. And I have to agree now that I know what actually did freaking happen and it was insane, and it was a typical amazing and crazy Crichton major plot twist that I loved! Holy crapanoli I'm surprised I loved this. Plus one thing I love about Crichton is how he makes you think. He makes you wonder and yet can turn a story into such a vivid imagination depending on the story he used to write and wonder if something could or perhaps again, depending on the story such as Airframe here, did something similar did exist and happen to an airplane cabin? We don't know but if it did, he did a pretty good job at turning it into a story and great characters and plot.
