All I can say is that I'm soooooooooooo glad I was not on a plane listening and following along to this story. It was really interesting, typical Crichton, and definitely entertaining. It took me it seems forever to get through it here and there only because Crichton used to be pretty deep in the description of research and information on whether it's technology or medical, or science stuff. Though this kind of reminded me a little of his book The Andromeda Strain when in that one, you're in a lab doing research and testing a new form of space-like virus or something that somehow killed everyone in a small town except for a baby and some crazy delusional guy and they're trying to figure out what this thing is, how it works, and it's as if you're truly right there with them in this state of the art secret lab of sorts and on a behind the scenes/curtain of the process of a virus or something being tested but also trying to figure out how it managed to not harm or kill a baby and some delusional crazy guy but it killed everyone else all over this town.

AIRFRAME was a form of a behind the scenes/curtain as well but it had to do with aircraft, aerodynamics, and hence the title, airframe stuff where there was an unfortunate horrific incident with three passengers dead and fifty-six more people were injured with "the interior cabin virtually destroyed. But the pilot manages to land the plane...."

One way to describe this book is from the inside flap or the description where it says, "Airframe is nonstop reading: the extraordinary mixture of super suspense and authentic information on a subject of compelling interest that has been a Crichton hallmark since The Andromeda Strain."

Seriously though I have to agree which is why I'm comparing with the way this particular book was like a set up and written like the Andromeda Strain was and Airframe was just fascinating and so much fun to listen/follow along to. Although, I do advise as I was told when I first started this was to not fly a plane so soon after reading this book or be glad I wasn't on an actual plane while reading it. And I have to agree now that I know what actually did freaking happen and it was insane, and it was a typical amazing and crazy Crichton major plot twist that I loved! Holy crapanoli I'm surprised I loved this. Plus one thing I love about Crichton is how he makes you think. He makes you wonder and yet can turn a story into such a vivid imagination depending on the story he used to write and wonder if something could or perhaps again, depending on the story such as Airframe here, did something similar did exist and happen to an airplane cabin? We don't know but if it did, he did a pretty good job at turning it into a story and great characters and plot.

Despite my fears of flying, this novel took my fear too far. Understandably, it hasn't aged well since then and therefore is too decisive. John J. Nance should have actually written this rather than Crichton. Who or what were you expecting? Do not waste your time reading this, it is not worth your time.

I read this mainly because I find airplanes and accident forensics fascinating. It's a typical Crichton set up, without and sci fi this time. The solution to the central mystery--what happened on flight 545--is fairly obvious early on so the rest of the book is mainly the suspense of how it will all play out.

**Warning-major spoilers ahead**
It occurred to me after I finished, however, that the "big twist" part of the plot depended entirely on the two N-22 related accidents taking place one week before the Big Sale to China, which the bad guys could never have predicted, making that whole part of the story completely ludicrous. It's very possible I missed something there so please feel free to point it out if I did!

Whenever I want to get back in the swing of reading, I pick an easy read. That’s what this book is – easy. It’s about an airplane crash, the media’s desire to sensationalize instead of report the news, and the politics of the airplane business. It has little character development, and much of the dialogue is driven by explaining how airplanes and the airplane business operate (there is always some dumb character around to ask the obvious question that results in a mini lecture). I suppose if airplanes interest you, you might find some aspects to this book interesting. I still found the book intriguing even though I don’t really know much about airplanes, nor do I especially care to. I wasn’t as glued to the story as I was to some other Crichton novels, but it’s still a decent book if that’s the kind of book you like. I give it three stars out of five.

“The irony of the Information Age is that it has given new respectability to uninformed opinion.”

This book primarily focuses on the investigation after a mid-air plane incident over the Pacific Ocean. I didn't know what to expect going into this book since it has a lot of mixed reviews. But the writing style was great. Just the right amount of dialogue.

If you're into aviation, it's a good read. If not, you might struggle to understand some jargon (but the book will still be enjoyable).

Reread. Honest to God one of my favorite little books, here. Airframe is like a drawn out, dramatic retelling from Admiral Cloudberg's Plane Crash Series on reddit - though, while there we review in detail actual aerial disasters, here we just get to enjoy the tight story Crichton meticulously put together, guilt free cause it isn't real.

Obviously, as a pop thriller Airframe takes some creative liberties, but this book is WELL researched and presents a story that (at its base), is totally plausible. I also appreciated Crichton's take on the media this time around, which felt like a fresh, relevant and true reflection of the news landscape we still have today, over 20 years later.

Commendable stuff if you like Crichton's writing style. I will defend this book to the end. If you like this book and want more airplane drama, I recommend https://www.reddit.com/r/admiralcloud....

Well, this took me by surprise, I must say. My Michael Crichton experience before was a bit chequered to be honest: The Adromeda Strain, good; Jurassic Park, excellent; & The Lost World, woeful. I picked this up in a book box in my local park and said I'd give it 50 pages. If it hadn't grabbed me by then, I'd put it back. 50 pages flew by, as did the next 50 and the next! I loved it, a real page turner. It's an old-school thriller, full of great detail about a subject I never thought too much about. Some of the characters are a bit iffy and thinly sketched, but I didn't seem to mind too much as the plotting was strong. I thoroughly enjoyed this!

Such a great book! I would have finished it in a day if I had the time! The book starts with incredible action and continues with dynamic characters, technical aspects that I can actually understand, an intense climax in the plot, and a great ending. I did see the main part of the ending coming (why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5), but love how it was spelled out. Excellent story told in true Crichton fashion. A must read!

A plane is struggling to land, and sends out a distress call, asking for forty ambulances to be available for possible casualties. It is a compelling start to this techno thriller.

Later, however, there is a lot of detail about the technicilaties of aircraft manufacture.
When I used to step into an aeroplane,I never worried much about safety.I didn't hate flying. But in recent years, there have been so many aircraft crashes that have made me wonder, how safe air travel really is.

This is my favourite Crichton book.It raises some uncomfortable questions about the quality control standards followed by the aircraft manufacturing industry, and the safety of air travel in general.

Amazing plot. Follows like a good detective novel.

A plane goes up and down really fast and then three people die. Now Casey Singleton has to figure it out without getting her ass fired, losing the China sale, and stopping the news from bad-mouthing the N-22 wide body. Everyone gets what’s coming to them in a exciting story about an airplane.

I don’t care about airplanes, but it was quite enjoyable.

An alright Crichton novel. It's not bad, but suffers from some of his usual problems, like thin characters. This one also has too much technical stuff, to the point you just start to skim over some of it. Though, the mystery of why the plane had an accident was enough to keep me reading to the end. Three stars.
