Superb read and timely for me. Cynthia offers Centering Prayer in such a way that one experiences an invitation to grow in this way of being. I found my own heart resonating with the terminology of Centering prayer - I understand even though it is still in some ways foreign to my own experience.
I enjoyed the weaving of story through teaching and the pattern of explanation. Rather than feeling lost in it all, there was only a welcome to keep exploring and understanding, to realise it is not necessary to be 'perfect' in this way (important for me), merely the continual intention to be present in the stillness and silence. God is present and in this prayer, I am discovered . . .

This author and I are of differing opinions. I did not enjoy this book at all, and found the opinions in the book exasperating. There were a few metaphors that were mildly useful but otherwise this was the wrong book at the wrong time for me.

I love how succinct and personal Cynthia Bourgeault writes as she opens up what can often be an arcane and overly-mysterious topic. I appreciate how she stays firmly in Christ. I appreciate the good summary of the historical background and basic elements of a crucial practice for everyone desiring to know the love of God that is beyond understanding.

This is a simple, easily applied guide for the contemplative practice Bourgeault calls "Centering Prayer". I find it helpful in cultivating Silence. Bourgeault's approach personalizes Fr. Thomas Keating's teachings as she has her own filters. The word "prayer" will doubtless be a stumbling block for a lot of people. Some will find it too much "convo with God" and others will find it not enough of the same. The practice of Silence is definitely not for everyone.
