Hi my name is Sebastian Laguna from NBC news. Today I was able to sit down with former NFL player Micheal Oher. Micheal Oher was an offensive tackle and played in the NFL for 9 years. He lost his father when he was a baby and his mom was a drug addict. After many difficult years, he was able to get adopted by a wonderful family who helped him succeed. Let's hear what he has to say!
Q: What is your greatest achievement so far?
A: My greatest accomplishment is working hard and getting into a good college. I came to form nothing and had to fit in with lots of smart people. They were not like me at all. I had to sacrifice lots of things in order to do well in school. I am so very proud of my grades and that I was able to build connections with my teachers and work hard to achieve my goals. Without them, I would not have been able to do it.
Q: What do you fear the most?
A: One thing I fear the most is losing my family. My family is my most prized possession and I love them so much. If I ever lost them I don't know what I would do without them. They have helped me become the best person I can be. When I was on the street homeless they picked me up and gave me a house to stay in. This is why I fear losing them the most.

Q: What are the three words you'd use to describe yourself and why those three words?
A: Three words that describe me are fearless, kind, and helpful. I'm fearless because I will never back down from any challenge. I'm kind because I'm nice to all of my friends and family and will protect them if needed. I also have their back. I am helpful because I will always help someone in need. I know what it feels like to need help and I would never want someone to feel helpless. When I needed the most help no one was there for me. After my family adopted me things changed. This is why I will always help people in need. Even if it's the smallest thing, I will always be there.

Q: What is your greatest strength and why? What is your greatest weakness and why?
A: I feel like my greatest strength is protecting people who I love, and never letting anything happen to them. I think that the people you are in your life the most are the most important. They are the people who make life fun and who make you feel happy. I think my greatest weakness is being shy and sometimes people don’t know who I really am because they only judge me from the outside, not the inside.

Q: Do you surround yourself with friends or are you a loner?
A: When I was younger I had no one to help me. I was by myself with no food and no money. I had to learn to do many things by myself. I was a loner for most of my life until I met people who helped me find myself and find my way. I opened up a new world for myself and for once in my life I finally felt at home and safe. I still enjoy being alone but I also love to be with people who understand me.

Q: Who would you turn to if you were in desperate need of help and why?
A: I would turn to my family. My mom is brave and she will not let anything happen to me. She acts fast and knows how to help me. She is independent and knows what will cheer me up and understands me the best. My dad is a smart man who knows how to fix hard problems and would do anything to help fix my problems. My brother is funny and knows how to make me laugh. He also gets along with me the best, and he helps me with all of my football plays at the dinner table and knows when to be serious and not. By the way, he is only 9 years old.

Q: Would people turn to you if they needed help? If so, would you help them?
A: I think that people would turn to me if they needed help. I would help them because I know what it’s like to feel helpless and I would never want someone to feel that way. I like to help people because when I do so, I learn new things and it makes me a smarter person so for the next time someone is in need of help I know what to do. I also feel accomplished when helping someone because when other people are happy it makes me happy.

Q: Do you make decisions easily or do you second-guess yourself?
A: I think I make decisions easily because I know what I want and how I want it. I can picture my Future in my head which helps me make decisions easier. I make sure to think long and hard about tough decisions but I always go with my gut and never look back. This skill has helped me become a great person and I’m proud of where I am today!

Q: Are you more athletic/physical or are you more intellectual?
A: My best attribute is sports. I’m extremely athletic and very smart on the field. I am able to read other people during football games. I think that in sports it’s about your mentality more than your skill. If you say to yourself that you can do it, It gives your body steam and energy. In football, I feel like I can take out all of my anger and sadness. This is like a stress reliever for me and is one of my favorite things to do.

I would like to thank Micheal Oher for sitting down with us today. If you liked this Q and A, I highly recommend that you read the book The Blind Side by Michael Lewis. I also recommend watching the movie after reading the book.

I'm not even going to bother putting the excerpt for this book since if you've seen the movie you know what its about. I'm going to put it straight that i am not a sports fan. I know absolutely nothing about sports, nor do i care to learn. The reason i picked up the book was because i liked the movie.Whenever i see movies based on books and i like it i tend to read the book next. Unfortunately the book is nothing like the movie. In fact unless your a sports or football fan that it's probably safer to stick with the movie. Many times while reading the book i felt like i was back in statistics class again. Reading the pages, but really having no idea what the hell is being said. I give this book three stars because of something new and interesting dab-its on Micheal Oher, but it really wasn't my thing. I was eternally glad i checked this book out from the library rather than buying it.

I will likely never be a football fan, so it surprised me just as much as anyone that I really enjoyed this book. I certainly feel I understand the game better, which is saying something from someone who has had it explained about a dozen times before and promptly forgotten all of it.

As for the story, I won't make judgments on these people's lives, but I was left wanting to know more. Did Leigh Anne ever start her foundation? How has Michael's career gone? These will be independent research projects for me in the next couple of days, but suffice it to say, if it got me to care this much, I'd judge it to be well-written.

The only real bother I had with the prose was the repetitive accent murdering that took place when it came to Coach O -- just a little annoying after a while.
