Jake Mullin is currently in law school at Columbia. He is working for a large firm over the summer and handling a small pro-bono case. Arriving home to the Hamptons one Friday night, he is met at the train station by his girlfriend, which is typical, but also his father and his grandfather. Not sure why such a big fanfare, he is even more disturbed by the looks on their faces, their news is devastating. His younger brother Peter had been found washed up on the beach, and the police are claiming suicide. Jake knows better and is determined to figure out why everyone is covering up his brothers death.

I'm going through all of James Patterson's stand alone books this year. I have read many of his books in the past and he has long been one of my favorite authors. His books may be long, but getting through them is always quick and easy.

Jake is determined to find out who killed his brother. His brother was not an angel, but he would not kill himself. When Jakes enlists the help from his friends in order to investigate his brother's murder, he finds out that finding the answers is going to be more difficult than he had expected. He's dealing with prominent people in the community who have the police force and other officials in their back pocket and Jake doesn't have the kind of money to change that. So he has to be creative and come up with a way to solve the problem. After the death of his father and another friend at the hands of the goons hired by the people Peter worked for, Jakes determination increases.

You will have to read or listen to the book to find out whether or not Jake is able to bring his brothers killers to justice or will he end up losing his life in the process.

This is an older James Patterson book, but a really good one. The next book up for me is n  n.

This book is about a murder and people trying to get justice for it. The ending was very satisfying to me. It made me feel very happy. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. Each time I picked it up to read, I was able to read more because of how short the chapters are.

A generous three stars based on my previous summer reads of James Patterson's work. I was hoping to indulge in a captivating indulgence during these times of The Plague and unrest. Fairly banal and drawn out. Not that satisfying to my sweet tooth. Sigh.

This is my first James Patterson novel. This is my last James Patterson novel, unless someone can convince me to give him another shot.

This book was T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E!!

I downloaded the audiobook from my library and I'm having trouble returning it; computer glitch or my library doesn't want it back? I'm guessing the latter.

This was the first audiobook that I've read (and I've read a lot) that has musical sound effects to compliment the narrator. You know that "dum dum" sound on Law & Order that plays between scene changes? Yeah, well this book had it's own "dum dum" (eye roll).

The story itself was disturbing and so unbelievable --  A rookie lawyer, alongside his grandpa and buddies, kidnaps a bunch of wealthy Hamptonians who are responsible for his brother's death. They rig a live television feed and hold their own trial. Astonishingly, all the victims cooperate and the world watches some kid bring down one of the most powerful businessmen in America.

"DUMB DUMB"

Jack Mullen is in law school and he has to find out who killed his brother Peter. It's a quick read, as the chapters are very short. It's easy to read and compelling. However, it doesn't take too long to figure out the mystery, although all the details don't get unraveled until the end. The finale ends in a faux courtroom case, spelling out the mystery TV-courtroom drama style. All in all, I found the book entertaining, but a little disappointing; having finished it yesterday, I don't even remember why Peter was killed.. The motives and even the characters were a little far-fetched.

Patterson is not necessarily one of my favorite authors, but I decided to give one of his books a go again, as I had nothing else to read in the house.

The story moved along really well up until the last 50 pages or so. The characters are well defined, and you really felt like you were part of this book. The story line is great, and is action packed.

For me, if there are small chapters, I feel like I am moving along quicker. With over 90 chapters in this book, that may be what made us feel like nonstop action. It took me a few days to pick the book back up as my interest was lost....but at least i finished it.

If you are a Patterson fan, this is a great book for you! However, this just was not the book for me.

This is 3.5 stars. We need half stars GoodReads!!!
This is my first Patterson novel and it was a nice, quick thriller about two brothers. Jack, a NYC lawyer and Peter who works in the Hamptons for the Uber wealthy parking their cars etc. Jack feels his brother could never have drowned because he was a strong swimmer and knew the Atlantic since childhood. Those of us who learned how to work against the riptides would probably agree. Yet the police rule it a suicide and there seem to be multiple lies and coverups. Jack’s mission is to right his brother’s name and legacy, get behind the police coverups, and to breakdown the barriers that millionaires and celebs seem to have in this town.

Beach Road (2006) by James Patterson with Peter De Jonge is an incredibly interesting story with a fantastic twist in the tale ending.

The story is mostly told from the point of view of the protagonist Tom Dunleavy. The setting is East Hampton where it is summer and East Hampton is the summer choice of home for stars of Hollywood and billionaires. Tom is a lawyer and he represents Dante Halleyville when he is took in for the murder of three people. Enter Kate Costello who is a fellow lawyer and Tom’s former girlfriend. Together Tom and Kate must work to prove Dante’s innocence. While all this is happening, Tom secretly wishes to rekindle his relationship with Kate.

Much kudos must go to Patterson and De Jonge for an unputdownable book. Snappy chapters filled with information push the story forward with glorious ease. The dialogue is authentic and the pace of the book is excellent. A really great book. Very interesting. Very engaging and stunningly written with a great array of diverse characters. I loved it.

There is a really excellent twist in this book which I did not see coming at all. I won’t spoil anything for you all but the amazing writing throughout is not let down by the ending.

An excellent read.
