When Jack a law student's younger brother Peter is found dead on the beach, It is ruled accidental or suicide, but Jack is not willing to accept this....
This book really was about how money can buy you anything including freedom... how the rich are not held accountable for their actions.... I realize this does happen, but I sure hope it doesn't happen to the extent it happened in this book.... I really did like the bond Jack and all his friends had, and how they brought justice to a situation that had previously had none... I believe there is a follow-up book to this, I will definitely read that at sometime, truly enjoyed those more than I anticipated...

I read this on the iPad. Intriguing story and not nearly as repetitive as Grisham.s Sycamore Row. Patterson finds a way to tell the story without exposing the reader to all the evidence before the trial. Well done Mr. Patterson. I enjoyed reading this.
Jack Mullen is a driven student of the law. His brother Peter is a servant of the rich, parking the cars of the Hamptons' elite --- and perhaps satisfying their more intimate needs as well. Then Peter's body is found on the beach. Jack knows the drowning was no accident, but someone's unlimited power and money have bought the cops, the judges, the system. Now Jack is learning a lesson in justice he never got in law school ... and his astonishing plan to beat the billionaires will have you reeling --- and cheering --- to the very last page.

A great, pocket sized read! The beach house is a tale of a young man avenging his late, younger brother with a great twist at the end. I, however, couldn’t shake the fact that the title reminded me wholly of the so called beach house in Wells, Norfolk owned by the Crossfield’s. Ben has always spoke highly of the property, yet I have still not seen the place. I’m starting to suspect it’s shrouded in mystery and murder much like the one in Patterson’s stellar novel. Time will tell…

The fact that i couldn't truly remember every detail of this book probably means something, but I can't tell what. Perhaps it was because I read it too quickly, trying to read as much as I can in this new years. I'm trying to read as many James Patterson books as I can, focusing on the Alex cross series which I love, this was a filler in between purchasing the next in the series. It was a good book, and while most characters in James Patterson novels are quite similar you could tell the difference, I can't remember the characters name which is bad, I probably should have wrote this sooner. But he was younger than most James Patterson characters, and his family dynamic was different, unique. I'd say that it was quite predictable, who he'd fall in love with, Pauline, quite a standard love interest, who was behind the deaths, it was kind of foretold since the beginning really. But I liked the writing style, liked how the characters took things into their own hands, went against the law in order to get justice, which was really a main point in the story itself. Justice. The way it shaped and forms when it comes to rich people, how they do on the stand. How the Judgement system hold a bias and how they had to work around it. It had a big moral to it in my eyes, and overall it was a good book, sure it was slightly predictable, but the uniqueness of Mack and and the anti-hero like way they in fact solved the case makes up for it for me. The writing style was good, and while the bad characters were bad, no room for sympathy really, like i said, i think it all equals out into a good book. I wish i took longer to read it, to appreciate it, but here we are. And I liked the younger brother, even though dead, he seems unique too, no cliche character there. Safe to say James Patterson books are standardly a good reliable read.

Jack is working as a summer intern in a big league firm that is runs a project that helps people get off of death row. Jack is working on a case right now for them. Jack's younger brother Peter was working the big beginning of summer beach party. He worked it every year for quite a few years. Peter is found washed up on the beach after the party. Just about everyone wants to believe that it was accidental or suicide. Jack doesn't believe it and tries to find out what really happens. But the wealthy involved are doing everything that they can to keep what really happened under wraps.

As usual with Patterson, this story is well written and keeps you turning pages. His books are usually a detriment to my sleep when I am reading one. The plot and characters are well developed. A good read from the first page.

Well, you certainly can't say these people weren't brave...or stupid...whichever you believe. Other than being a bit too grisly for my taste, this really was an excellently written mystery, IMO. However, I was amazed that the county coroner evidently never identified the corpse in Sammy's house. That seemed to be an inexplicable gap in the plot. Perhaps we were supposed to believe she was no longer employed by the county? I don't know, but it seemed a bit far-fetched that no one was questioning or wondering about the dead body's identity.

People like Barry Neubauer, who was a stereotypical rich bastard everyone would love to see taken down...and much more than a notch or two! :)

My biggest problem with a book like this is not knowing who really wrote it - did Patterson & De Jonge really co-write the book or did Patterson give De Jonge the idea and did De Jonge in turn write the story. Oh well -there's no denying the commercial aspect of the publishing business I guess!

That being said, this book helped me through some rough times as I began it while was in the hospital being fed intravenous antibiotics for a massive infection. It kept me busy without having to worry about complexity of plot while being interrupted often for blood tests and other things that go on in the hospital. It is a fast-paced, easy read about triumphant vigilante justice...and, of course, they all "live happily ever after" (sort of). Having lived my entire life on Long Island, I especially enjoyed the setting. Whoever did actually write the book, spent a great deal of time delving into the Long Island experience - from life out on the South Fork (Montauk/ Amagansett), to places such as Ronkonkoma, Manhattan and the Long Island commuter's experience. Very realistic in that respect.

...And I guess public access TV is more than just for stuff like "Wayne's World" :-)! This would probably make an entertaining movie with the right cast (at least a made-for-tv movie).

Maybe it's because I haven't read a James Patterson book in a while, or maybe it's Peter De Jonge's influence (I haven't read anything by him before), but this story didn't impress me the way most of Patterson's novels -- especially the Alex Cross stories -- have.

The story seems rushed, a feeling that's aided by the extremely short chapters. To my knowledge, Patterson has never written Mitchner-length chapters, but he at least used them to build suspense. For instance, you would get to a particularly interesting part in the story, something shocking would happen, and then the chapter would end -- the break in text worked as a tension builder. But the majority of chapters in this story are no more than a page long, and there aren't that many suspenseful parts.

Again, I'm not sure whether this is something about Patterson's writing that I failed to notice before or can be chalked up to De Jonge's influence, but either way, I think I'll stick with the Alex Cross novels.

I really like the easy read to this book. And I would have given it another star if they didn't feel like they had to throw in a gratuitous and very unnecessary sex scene. Call me a prude, but I like things left more to my imagination. It just tainted the book for me. To me it didn't fit in with the rest of the story. It just took me by surprise.
