I love mysteries but for some reason never read these until recently. Set in post World War 1 England, these books are perfect for a history major who loves mysteries. The protagonist is interesting and the setting even more.

A good mystery book. It was a book that dealt with a murder mystery, but instead of dealing with the gruesome murder itself it was about finding out who the murderer was and the path to finding the answer. I enjoyed reading this book and will read more of her books.

I have not yet been disappointed. These books are all wonderful. The mysteries are interesting and unpredictable, the characters well delineated and complex and Maisie Dobbs changes and gains wisdom and experience through the years. Sometimes it's not easy seeing the things she has to go through because she's become a friend. I love all the history I'm learning about England in the early 20th Century and it's growing pains.

World War I is covered in its many aspects as well and I find that fascinating. It was one of the most defining events in England's history and to watch it in its aftermath one learns more than history books can teach, just how much it really just continued into WWII. Ms. Winspear is a wonderful writer and historian and she's just going to have to keep writing these because I never want to quit hearing about this wonderful character and her friends and family.
