Interesting read. The four stages of spiritual growth make sense. Puzzling how Peck became Christian after writing "The Road Less Traveled". I didn't catch the keys to his conversion. It seems out of sync with the four stages.

Most "disorders" are "psychosomatic." Apparently, even including cancer. Although I find it so hard to believe he actually said that, I can't convince myself I actually heard it on this audiobook. But he covers himself by saying not all cancers, but he seems to be saying most.

Got cancer? Become spiritual and your odds of getting cured increase many times over. He just seems like a snake oil salesman to me. Typical is that he uses some science knowledge mixed in with absurdities.

Although I disagree with a lot of his theology, I did find the book interesting to read.

The first one was a little better, imo. However, this one is still FILLED with amazing insight! I absolutely LOVE and admire Dr.Peck’s persistence in intertwining spirituality with psychiatry. I appreciate how he emphasizes the importance of connecting and understanding one’s spirit in order to fully understand an entire being. The epilogue seemed to drag, but maybe it’s only because I’m not a practicing psychiatrist. However, I feel his one statement in the concluding chapter perfectly sums up this book: “Over the past generation…in running with a medical model that has been remarkably one-dimensional and almost purely materialistic, psychiatrists have increasingly backed themselves into a corner where they are expected to function a mere pill pushers and to leave a deep understanding of the human condition to the theologians and pastoral counselors”.

I really liked the Road Less Traveled, even though I do not agree with all concepts. The part of discipline and love has probably being one of the most influential reads of my life. However, this book has really disappointed me. On one hand, I liked noticing how the author has grown and the difference in his style of writing. On the other hand, his book now speaks to a smaller part of the population. It is a lot less about spiritual path and more about his own believes about Christianity. The only part that I really liked was the stages of spiritual growth, which will help me on my own path. The rest (95% of the book), is just not for me at all. I will continue rereading the Road Less Traveled, but I will not pick up this book again.
