I have had this book for a while. I've often flipped through it, but today I sat down and read it/looked at it page by page. In the forward Martin mentions being nervous about Fantasy Flight giving a face to all of his characters. This book was published before the TV show, of course, and while that is true I now have so many of these characters firmly in my head that some of the art was unsatisfactory for that reason. Unfair perhaps, but that is how it goes.

A brilliant and detailed biography of the LOTR films themselves; following the author through the various sets and workshops behind the scenes becomes a wholly immersive trip into the making of Middle-Earth itself. Perfect read for fans who like reading about the ins and outs of creating a truly iconic series of films. Also, I now have a newfound appreciation for Viggo Mortensen as a professional actor.

Lord of the Rings: The Making of the Movie Trilogy
Author: Brian Sibley

Have you ever wondered how the filmmakers of the Lord of the Rings trilogy managed to create the world of Middle Earth?

The author Brian Sibley created a book that offers fans the ultimate backstage experience.
Brian Massey tells us how he and his team cultivated the wooded valley of Rivendell and the Elven Kingdom of Lothlórien and the Ents in the backyard of the Weta Workshop.

Director Peter Jackson describes how he experienced the entire Middle-earth adventure and the many challenges he encountered during filming.

Many miniatures of the cities were built for the movies. The Miniature Builders share all the ins and outs of the entire building process in detail.
Costume designer Ngila Dickson explains how she and her team managed to provide each actor with a unique costume that allowed them to perfectly portray their role.

There is so much covered in this book, such as the design process of the ring, the composition of the music, and the casting process of the actors and more.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to all Lord of the Rings fans.

A deep dive into some of the key personalities and behind the scene disciplines that made the films. I really enjoyed it.

If you want behind-the-scenes detail, this is the book for you. And I mean DETAIL. I personally like to leave some mystery, so this book wasn’t really my thing. I’ve read other behind-the-scenes LOTR books that were more engaging. It’s got some good photos & some interesting info, but I skipped ahead a lot.

Mr, Sibley brings his considerable lore master skills as a writer to this nice coffee table book about the making of the Peter Jackson lotr films. its amazing. also loaded with great pictures. The author has been a fan of middle earth since the early days of the book and is an uberfan and king of geeks as well as an incredible writer, who incidentally penned the radio scripts for bbc's mid 80s version of the lotr with ian holmes. the book includes lots of interviews with crew and cast, i especially like the sections quoting richard taylor of weta.

Read this awhile ago, so I don't remember too much about it ... which is why I can't give it the 4 stars ("I really liked it") rating. It's a good book to borrow from the library if you like "Lord of the Rings."

When the Lord of the Rings movies came out in the early 2000’s, I was absolutely obsessed. As I also was with the books (my review in https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...).
The movies were a masterpiece, and I found a superior talent in their aesthetic options, choices of atmosphere and looks. The video “making off” is eye-opening in all ways they went out of their way to achieve a certain result, and these books are in the same line. Since the conceptual design of the most tiny detail, to the epic effects, all contributed to the end result and sometimes the subtlest of aspects changes the way we perceive the action.
I bought all the illustrated big format books about the making of the movies and was immersed in all of them for quite some time. They will always be 5 stars.
