Dominion and Dynasty has been one of the most helpful OT works that I have consumed while in school. For those unacquainted with studying the order of the cannon, this book will widen your horizons. Never before reading this did book order matter to me and it especially never crossed my mind that the location of a book within the cannon could alter our interpretation. This book provides a a healthy treatment of typology and motif and teaches us how we should and should not find messianic themes in the Tanakh. I leave this book with a helpful framework for reading and interpreting the OT storyline.

On the whole, Dempster does an excellent job of tracing major themes of the Old Testament. However, I think his argument that the shape of the Hebrew canon is necessary for correct biblical theology of the Old Testament requires more evidence. His arguments remain strong until his analysis of the Writings. At that point, his reasoning doesn't seem thoroughly supported.

Well written and compelling. The only reason it wasn’t 5 stars is I had Goldsworthy stuck in my head and kept trying to fit Dempsters two categories into Goldsworthy’s three: “God’s people in God’s place under God’s rule”.

Wonderfull book showing the unity and the beautiful complexity in the Bible. I truly agree with him in that the best way to understand and delight in the Bible is to read it closely and multiple times complete. This book has certainly inspired me to read the Bible more, and presents a strong case for the divinely inspired nature of Scripture.
