At first, I thought I was going to like this book, altho a little tired of Alcorn's heavenly scenes which I believe to be based on assumptions. Also do not care for the way in which Jesus is depicted as being so in love with us...as is common in current Christian thought and writings.

The book is about racial issues and black culture, which I appreciated knowing more about. However, the story line got old as it turned out to be so similar to what is common cops and robbers TV/movie fare with some minor Christian thought thrown in. One night I went to pick it up and simply could not continue.

Sweet Revenge?

When two senseless killings hit close to home, columnist Clarence Abernathy seeks revenge for the murders—and, ultimately, answers to his own struggles regarding race and faith. After being dragged into the world of inner-city gangs and racial conflict, Clarence is encouraged by fellow columnist Jake Woods to forge an unlikely partnership with a redneck homicide detective. Soon the two find themselves facing dark forces, while unseen eyes watch from above. This re-release of Randy Alcorn’s powerful bestseller spins off from Deadline and offers a fascinating glimpse inside heaven.

_Can One Man’s Search for Justice Stand Up to the Forces of Evil Threatening to Destroy Him? _

A shocking murder drags black newspaper columnist Clarence Abernathy into the disorienting world of inner-city gangs and racial conflict. In a desperate hunt for answers to the violence (and to his own struggles with race and faith), Clarence forges an unlikely partnership with redneck detective Ollie Chandler. Despite their differences, Clarence and Ollie soon find themselves sharing the same mission: victory over the forces of darkness vying for dominion.

Filled with insight—and with characters so real you’ll never forget them—_Dominion _is a dramatic story of spiritual searching, racial reconciliation, and hope.

I don’t know when I have read a novel that affected me so profoundly. Randy Alcorn has combined a superb mystery/detective story with a lesson in racial relations in America, gang dynamics and symbols, Christian values, and spiritual warfare.

Even better than its predecessor…Alcorn’s writing remains top-notch.

Story Behind the Book

Randy Alcorn thoroughly researched his characters, spending time in the inner city with homicide and gang detectives to better create the scenes for this bestselling novel. He set the story in his hometown of Portland, Oregon, and the main character, Clarence Abernathy, is a black journalist whose unforgettable father played baseball in the old Negro Leagues. Randy has received many letters from readers who assume he is African American due to his accurate portrayals of racial issues.

I really enjoyed the first book in the Ollie Chandler series and was a little disappointed in this one. I was hoping that Jake Woods would be more involved in this book, as I thought he was a very likable character in the first.

I tried reading it a few years ago, after reading "Deadline", but wasn't to terribly impressed by it, at that time.

Eventually, after reading "Deception", I was interested enough in it to read beyond the first few pages. (In "Deception", the Main Character's father of "Dominion" is mentioned a few times as an impressive Christian man.)

This book deals with, a good deal, Society's perception of people who are other than Caucasian. (Specifically, Black people {or whatever the politically correct terminology is}) The thing that I thought about the society perception was it could also all apply to Native people.

It's a book that makes you think, about how you think of colored people (other than white), to think about how you see yourself, and how you behave towards ... well, everyone. It seems to bring social inequities into sharper focus. (You can "see" them happening, where it wouldn't have even fazed you before)

My third book as a "new" reader. Really liked the characters, but got a little tired of the constant race information. It's probably realistic, but got a little tired of it.

My favorite in this series, which seems to be unusual in my reading circle. I appreciate that Alcorn doesn't shy away from uncomfortable issues involving race and gang crimes, but doesn't wallow in their ugliness either.

A great book with a great message. It's the hardest to get through of this trilogy, but it is such an important book.

Completely thrilling, suspenseful, and realistic treatment of racism with fiction.

Sports columnist Clarence Abernathy is heartbroken when his sister and her five year old daughter are killed in what appears to be a gang shooting. He enlists the help of Detective Ollie Chandler, and they will stop at nothing to find justice.
"Dominion" covers some important subjects such as racism, gang activity, Salvation, and even angels. It had some really good stuff in it; but overall I didn't like this book nearly as much as I liked "Deadline". Especially the first half really held my interest, but I got a little bored with some of it. I think it is just too long and sdrawn out in places, and it dwelt too long on some of the same issues..

There are not enough good words to say about this book. The way that Randy Alcorn links Heaven and earth and all of the events happening always stretches the imagination, but never goes beyond Biblical bounds. The story line is amazing...it is a hard book to put down. Read this book.
