This cupboard is not useful of material wealth, it is also filled with relationships, experiences, and wisdoms. (For some reasons that's called a metaphor) Well this cupboard be a symbolic nature of an event in this book? I guess we'll now

This is the first book in the series that I found to be somewhat disappointing, and all because of the actions of one character, Mma Potokwane, the matron of the orphan farm. She has been 'strong-willed' before, but in this book she is a bullying busybody. I know she professes to do things to 'help' people, but to me, it's more that she likes to control those around her, and unfortunately Mr. Matekoni lets her get away with it.

As always, there is some mystery, but the book is more the story of the characters' lives and what they have made of themselves. Hopefully, Mma Potokwane will have less of an impact from now on. Perhaps someone will have the courage to stand up to her as Mr. Matekoni did once. I know she helped him when he was in distress, but she expects too much in return.

This is really a series which should be read in order although the fundamentals are always reiterated.
Mma Makutsi is definitely my favorite of the regular characters. She continues to evolve in an interesting way.

These books are just delightful. The characters are so real and it's such an insightful look into culture. But are they ever going to get married!!!!!

I love these books! This heartwarming installment did not disappoint, and was full of Mma Ramotswe's wisdom and observations. The mystery in this centered around Mma Ramotswe's investigation into prospective suitors for a wealthy client. Are they worthy of her, or just interested in her bank account? As always, at the heart of the story are the lives of the residents of Gaborone, and their hopes, dreams, and accomplishments. It is always a treat to find out what is happening to them all! To say that the characters created by Alexander McCall Smith are memorable is an understatement. The ending of this book was a pleasant surprise that I did not anticipate!

Alexander McCall Smith gets Africa right. He knows how to set scenes well and creates believable and lovable characters. Complete omniscience lets us in the on the thoughts and feelings of all the main characters, and he always has a few plot twists. The books are not fast-paced, but they are fun to read. I love every one of the No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency books.

I love this series, the people, the setting, everything. I did this mostly on audio which was a fun new experience to the story but I also so love reading these little hb books.

How, HOW, how does Alexander McCall Smith write exactly like an African lady? And how does it do it time and time again? And how does he make these books so addictive, so gentle, so beautiful, so funny?

HOW?

I've been very distracted over the last couple weeks, so I didn't give this one the attention I normally do. However, I found this one funnier than some of the others, with Mr. JLB Matekoni getting roped into a parachute jump and Mma Ramotswe investigating what is basically Bad Girls Club: Botswana.

Good quotes: If you could not count on other people to mean what they said, or to do what they said they would do, then life would become utterly unpredictable. The fact that we could trust one another made it possible to undertake the simple tasks of life.

"Boys and men are the same people, in different clothes. Boys wear short trousers and men wear long trousers. But they are just the same if you take their trousers off." [Not enough Mma Makutsi in this book, but I guess she stole the show in the last installment.]

If you look for happiness, you will see it; if you look for distrust and envy and hatred--all those things--you will find them too.
