I really liked this series. The main character is likable and humorous. However I tired of the series by about book 3. Definitely a fun fictional series but not nearly as engaging as the Sunday Philosophy Club series. Still though, I haven't read a bad A McC S book so far.

I have read the first three books of the set and currently reading the last. These books are light and amusing reading that I find are teaching me much about African life. I have read other books with an African setting that are more political and rife with sadness but this series seems like a more typical simple life story of a wonderful every day heroine.

I love this book. It's fun to read about Botswana and it's fun to read all of the capers. (It's also fun to have a plus size heroine.) It will be a great movie...I think it's already out in the UK - I don't know when it will be here.

This is a charming series that takes place in Botswana. It is filled with interesting insights into the culture and daily life. It is a polite look at another culture. It's good to try one of these books on CD to get the feel for the language and pronunciation. Read past the first book as it lays the background, but isn't necessarily my favorite. They are making a movie about at least one of these books.

I've read them all, I think. I love the view of Africa - the land, the customs, the people. I also find authors interesting that write so well about other genders. Funny, happy books.

I'm on book 3 and have been enjoying these informative, and light-hearted mysteries. Its been informative to read about life in Botswana and see a different way of looking at the world. They get a little redundant as the author retells about things in case one picks up a random book and doesn't follow the series, but I just skim through those parts.

Read all in series (so far), through book nine "Miracle at Speedy Motors. // I love these books. When you read them, you're taken to a place where people are calm and considerate. I find it very soothing - like a vacation to a relaxing place. Not too taxing; no major plot developments - just a niiiice read. It's like "How To Cope With Difficult People 101"! McCall Smith's first-hand knowledge of Botswana makes for a very genuine setting.

I cannot figure out what the big deal about this book is. Pretty much everyone I've talked to loves them but I thought it was totally stupid. The parts most people are think are cute and funny, I thought were dumb. This book was so boring. The only reason I even finished it was because we read it for book club and I felt obligated. Reading the rest of the books in this series would be nothing short of torture.

This is a great easy-read series that is exceptionally entertaining. Some people think that the first book is slow so give the series a chance and keep reading!
